HOUSE BILL NO. 894
BY REPRESENTATIVE HOFFMANN
REAL ESTATE/APPRAISERS:  Relative to the membership requirements for the Louisiana
Real Estate Appraisers Board
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 37:3394(B)(1), relative to the Louisiana Real Estate Appraisers2
Board; to provide for membership requirements and qualifications; and to provide3
for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 5
Section 1. R.S. 37:3394(B)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6

B. (1)  Nine members shall be appointed by the governor with one member9
appointed from each congressional district and the remainder appointed at large. Of10
the nine members appointed by the governor:11
(a) One shall be appointed from a list of three names submitted by the12
Louisiana Bankers Association each of whom shall have been involved in real estate13
lending for at least five years.14
(b)  One shall be appointed from a list of three names submitted by the15
Community Bankers of Louisiana, each of whom shall have been involved in real16
estate lending for at least five years.17
(c) One shall be a current employee or representative of a Louisiana licensed18
Appraisal Management Company doing business in Louisiana who has been19
involved in real estate appraisal management for at least five years.20 HLS 14RS-1311	ORIGINAL

(c)(d) The remainder shall have been Louisiana residents engaged in the1
general practice of real estate appraising in the state of Louisiana for not less than2
five years immediately preceding their appointment.3

Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature of the by the governor or,5
if not signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without6
signature by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of7
Louisiana. If vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act8
shall become effective on the day following such approval.9

Abstract: Retains present law and provides an additional requirement that one member of
the Louisiana Real Estate Appraisers Board shall be appointed from a list of names
submitted by the Real Estate Valuation Advocacy Association, or its successor
organization. 
Present law provides that members appointed to the Louisiana Real Estate Appraisers Board
by the governor must meet certain requirements.
Proposed law retains present law and provides an additional requirement that 1 member shall
be a current employee or representative of a Louisiana licensed Appraisal Management
Company doing business in Louisiana who has been involved in real estate appraisal
management for at least 5 years. 
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
