WILDLIFE/ENFORCEMENT:  Prohibits the transport of live feral hogs
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 56:123, relative to feral hogs; to prohibit the transport of live feral hogs; to2
provide for penalties; and to provide for related matters.3
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:4
Section 1.  R.S. 56:123 is hereby enacted to read as follows:5
ยง123.  Feral hogs; transporting prohibited6
A. No person shall transport or cause to be transported a live feral hog7
whether by a moving land vehicle or aircraft.8
B. Any person who violates this Section shall be subject to the following9
penalties:10
(1) For the first offense, a fine of not less than five hundred dollars nor more11
than one thousand dollars, or imprisonment of not more than ninety days, or both.12
(2) For a second offense, a fine of not less than one thousand dollars nor13
more than one thousand six hundred dollars, and imprisonment for not less than sixty14
days nor more than ninety days, and forfeiture to the commission of anything seized15
in connection with the violation.16
(3) For a third offense and all subsequent offenses, a fine of not less than one17
thousand five hundred dollars nor more than two thousand dollars, and imprisonment18
for not less than ninety days nor more than one hundred twenty days, and forfeiture19

(4) In addition to any other penalty, for a second or subsequent violation of1
this Section, the penalty imposed shall include the revocation of the permit or2
license, under which the violation occurred, for a period of one year.3

Abstract: Prohibits the transport of live feral hogs.
Proposed law prohibits a person from transporting live feral hogs, and provides that a
violation of such shall result in a fine, imprisonment, or both. 
Proposed law provides that a first offense will result in a fine ranging from $500 to $1000
and imprisonment of up to 90 days.  Specifies that a second offense will result in a fine
ranging from $1000 to $1600, imprisonment ranging from 60 to 90 days, and forfeiture of
anything seized in connection with the violation. Provides that a third offense will result in
a fine ranging from $1500 to $2000, imprisonment ranging from 90 to 120 days, and
forfeiture of anything seized in connection with the violation. Provides that a second or
subsequent violation shall result in the revocation of the violator's hunting or trapping license
for a period of one year.
