HLS 14RS-3582 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 115 BY REPRESENTATIVE KLECKLEY SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes Wednesday, April 30, 2014, as Louisiana Community and Technical College System Workforce Experience Day at the capitol A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To recognize Wednesday, April 30, 2014, as the Louisiana Community and Technical2 College System Workforce Experience Day at the capitol.3 WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges have provided high-4 quality academic and workforce training programs in fifty-five of Louisiana's sixty-four5 parishes since the creation of the system in 1999; and6 WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges offer certificates,7 technical diplomas, and degrees in more than one hundred fields including industry-based8 certifications and the Louisiana Transfer Degree to create workforce solutions for business9 and industry and provide opportunity and access to all citizens of Louisiana as a result of an10 open admissions policies; and11 WHEREAS, the thirteen colleges that make up the Louisiana Community and12 Technical College System enrolled tens of thousands of students in credit programs in 201313 as well as more than thirty-five thousand students in workforce contract training courses to14 meet immediate local workforce demands; and15 WHEREAS, programs such as WorkReady U served more than thirty-two thousand16 Adult Basic Education students at over two hundred sites statewide and out-performed the17 national average by six percent; and18 WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges awarded twenty-five19 thousand certificates, technical diplomas, and degrees in 2013 as a result of a continuing20 mission to improve the lives of students and meet the workforce needs of the state; and21 HLS 14RS-3582 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 115 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, four colleges in the Louisiana Community and Technical College1 System were named the fastest-growing community and technical colleges in the nation in2 2013; and3 WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges are successfully enrolling4 and retaining more students than ever before as evidenced by the fact that in 2013, three of5 the colleges had their largest graduating classes to date; and6 WHEREAS, the community and technical colleges have made it a priority to build7 mutually beneficial partnerships with industry, to make strategic investments, and to align8 programs and curricula to meet local and statewide industry needs; and9 WHEREAS, the community and technical colleges have worked collaboratively with10 the state's four-year public universities to establish articulation agreements; and11 WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges have worked diligently12 to ensure that students receive a world-class education at an affordable price in a nurturing13 and rigorous environment that will prepare them for a rewarding career; and14 WHEREAS, the faculty, staff, chancellors, and directors have dedicated their lives15 and put their professional reputations on the line for the advancement of the students and the16 communities they serve; and17 WHEREAS, Louisiana is served by the good works of its community and technical18 colleges across the state, and citizens can be confident in looking to community and19 technical colleges as a solution to the state's educational and workforce development needs.20 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby21 recognize Wednesday, April 30, 2014, as Louisiana Community and Technical College22 System Workforce Experience Day at the capitol and does hereby commend the dedicated23 work and the contributions of the employees and students of the Louisiana Community and24 Technical College System to the great state of Louisiana.25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted26 to the Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors and27 System President Monty Sullivan.28 HLS 14RS-3582 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 115 Page 3 of 3 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
