HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 115

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To recognize Wednesday, April 30, 2014, as the Louisiana Community and Technical
College System Workforce Experience Day at the capitol.
WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges have provided high-
quality academic and workforce training programs in fifty-five of Louisiana's sixty-four
parishes since the creation of the system in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges offer certificates,
technical diplomas, and degrees in more than one hundred fields including industry-based
certifications and the Louisiana Transfer Degree to create workforce solutions for business
and industry and provide opportunity and access to all citizens of Louisiana as a result of
open admissions policies; and
WHEREAS, the thirteen colleges that make up the Louisiana Community and
Technical College System enrolled tens of thousands of students in credit programs in 2013
as well as more than thirty-five thousand students in workforce contract training courses to
meet immediate local workforce demands; and
WHEREAS, programs such as WorkReady U served more than thirty-two thousand
Adult Basic Education students at over two hundred sites statewide and out-performed the
national average by six percent; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges awarded twenty-five
thousand certificates, technical diplomas, and degrees in 2013 as a result of a continuing
mission to improve the lives of students and meet the workforce needs of the state; and
WHEREAS, four colleges in the Louisiana Community and Technical College
System were named the fastest-growing community and technical colleges in the nation in
2013; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges are successfully enrolling
and retaining more students than ever before as evidenced by the fact that in 2013, three of
the colleges had their largest graduating classes to date; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 115

WHEREAS, the community and technical colleges have made it a priority to build
mutually beneficial partnerships with industry, to make strategic investments, and to align
programs and curricula to meet local and statewide industry needs; and
WHEREAS, the community and technical colleges have worked collaboratively with
the state's four-year public universities to establish articulation agreements; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's community and technical colleges have worked diligently
to ensure that students receive a world-class education at an affordable price in a nurturing
and rigorous environment that will prepare them for a rewarding career; and
WHEREAS, the faculty, staff, chancellors, and directors have dedicated their lives
and put their professional reputations on the line for the advancement of the students and the
communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana is served by the good works of its community and technical
colleges across the state, and citizens can be confident in looking to community and
technical colleges as a solution to the state's educational and workforce development needs.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
recognize Wednesday, April 30, 2014, as Louisiana Community and Technical College
System Workforce Experience Day at the capitol and does hereby commend the dedicated
work and the contributions of the employees and students of the Louisiana Community and
Technical College System to the great state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors and
System President Monty Sullivan.
