HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 117

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the Metairie Park Country Day boys' basketball team
upon winning the Class 1A state championship for the second consecutive year and
third time in six years
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend the Metairie Park Country Day Cajuns boys' basketball team upon winning2
their second consecutive state championship.3
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens of Louisiana have learned that the4
Metairie Park Country Day Cajuns boys' basketball team won the 2014 Class 1A state5
basketball championship on Saturday, March 15, by defeating Madison Prep Academy 50-476
in the finals of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Top 28 Boys Basketball7
Tournament held at McNeese State's Burton Coliseum; and8
WHEREAS, Saturday's victory marks the Cajuns boys' second consecutive state9
championship and fifth title dating back to 1977; and10
WHEREAS, the Cajuns closed out the 2013 - 2014 season with a 28-9 record, and11
the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence throughout the season12
and playoffs; and13
WHEREAS, despite being seeded fourth in the tournament and suffering numerous14
injuries to several of their starting players, and with the opponent's last-second, potential15
game-tying three-pointer falling just short, the Cajuns held on to victory; and16
WHEREAS, Michael Corchiani, who scored a team-leading fourteen points for the17
Cajuns and had six rebounds, five assists, and two steals, was named the Most Outstanding18

WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved1
without the guidance and skills of head coach, Mike McGuire, as well as all of the other2
individuals who contributed to the success of the team, particularly including trainer3
Katherine Miller, who helped treat the numerous injuries to the players so they could4
continue competing; and5
WHEREAS, the members of the Legislature of Louisiana wish to recognize each of6
the coaches, managers, and the extraordinary young men of the Cajun basketball team on7
their much deserved second consecutive championship title which was earned through8
teamwork, determination, and dedication to the sport of basketball.9
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby10
commend and congratulate the players and coaches of the Metairie Park Country Day Cajuns11
boys' basketball team on an impressive and memorable season, and on capturing the Class12
1A Boys High School Basketball Championship.13
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the14
head coach of the Metairie Park Country Day Cajuns boys' basketball team, Mike McGuire,15
and to the head of school of the Metairie Park Country Day School, Carolyn Chandler.16
