ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 117 BY REPRESENTATIVE ABRAMSON A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend the Metairie Park Country Day Cajuns boys' basketball team upon winning their second consecutive state championship. WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens of Louisiana have learned that the Metairie Park Country Day Cajuns boys' basketball team won the 2014 Class 1A state basketball championship on Saturday, March 15, by defeating Madison Prep Academy 50-47 in the finals of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Top 28 Boys Basketball Tournament held at McNeese State's Burton Coliseum; and WHEREAS, Saturday's victory marks the Cajuns boys' second consecutive state championship and fifth title dating back to 1977; and WHEREAS, the Cajuns closed out the 2013 - 2014 season with a 28-9 record, and the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence throughout the season and playoffs; and WHEREAS, despite being seeded fourth in the tournament and suffering numerous injuries to several of their starting players, and with the opponent's last-second, potential game-tying three-pointer falling just short, the Cajuns held on to victory; and WHEREAS, Michael Corchiani, who scored a team-leading fourteen points for the Cajuns and had six rebounds, five assists, and two steals, was named the Most Outstanding Player for the second consecutive year; and WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved without the guidance and skills of head coach, Mike McGuire, as well as all of the other individuals who contributed to the success of the team, particularly including trainer Katherine Miller, who helped treat the numerous injuries to the players so they could continue competing; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 117 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, the members of the Legislature of Louisiana wish to recognize each of the coaches, managers, and the extraordinary young men of the Cajuns basketball team on their much deserved second consecutive championship title which was earned through teamwork, determination, and dedication to the sport of basketball. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the players and coaches of the Metairie Park Country Day Cajuns boys' basketball team on an impressive and memorable season, and on capturing the Class 1A Boys High School Basketball Championship. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the head coach of the Metairie Park Country Day Cajuns boys' basketball team, Mike McGuire, and to the head of school of the Metairie Park Country Day School, Carolyn Chandler.
