HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 172
BY REPRESENTATIVE BURFORD
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Councilman Curtis L. McCune upon his retirement after
forty-two years of public service
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Councilman Curtis L. McCune upon his retirement after forty-two years of2
public service.3
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Curtis L. McCune upon his retirement as4
a council member for the town of Stonewall and to recognize him for his unwavering5
dedication to public service; and6
WHEREAS, Curtis L. McCune attended Stonewall High School and graduated from7
Louisiana College, where he majored in chemistry; and8
WHEREAS, Curtis L. McCune completed his graduate studies at Tulane University,9
and he also attended numerous technical and managerial courses; and10
WHEREAS, Curtis L. McCune worked for Thiokol Corporation for thirty-five years11
of highly productive service, producing rocket motors and munitions for the United States12
Armed Forces; and13
WHEREAS, at Thiokol Corporation, Mr. McCune started out as a junior chemist and14
was eventually promoted to chemist, chemical engineer, research chemist, chief chemist, and15
quality director; and16
WHEREAS, upon his retirement, Curtis L. McCune was the director of all quality17
engineering and testing for the Longhorn Division of Thiokol Corporation; and18
WHEREAS, for thirty-six years, Curtis L. McCune served with great distinction as19
mayor of the town of Stonewall; and20 HLS 14RS-5154	ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, upon his retirement from the position of mayor, Mr. McCune was1
elected council member for the town of Stonewall; and2
WHEREAS, Curtis L. McCune is officially retiring from the Town of Stonewall, and3
June 10, 2014, will be his final meeting as a member of the town council; and4
WHEREAS, before serving as mayor, Mr. McCune spent two years as road5
commissioner and devoted three years of his life to the service of his country; and6
WHEREAS, over the years, much of Mr. McCune's time has been spent serving with7
great distinction on local, parish, and regional committees; and8
WHEREAS, Curtis L. McCune is a loving husband to his wife of sixty-two years,9
Nancy McCune, and a devoted father and grandfather to his four children, nine10
grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; and11
WHEREAS, Curtis L. McCune merits a special measure of commendation for the12
tremendous pride and honor that he brings to his family, friends, and community, the town13
of Stonewall, and the state of Louisiana.14
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby15
commend Curtis L. McCune upon his retirement from forty-two years of public service,16
including four years as a council member and thirty-six years as the mayor of Stonewall,17
does hereby recognize and record for posterity his outstanding accomplishments and18
manifold contributions to his community, and does hereby extend best wishes for his19
continued success and happiness in the years to come.20
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted21
to Curtis L. McCune.22
