COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Captain Patrick C. Rabun upon his retirement from the
United States Navy after thirty years of dedicated service
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Captain Patrick C. Rabun upon his retirement after thirty years of faithful and2
dedicated service to our country in the United States Navy.3
WHEREAS, Patrick C. Rabun was born in Farmerville, Louisiana, on January 27,4
1962, to Zollie and Joyce Rabun; and5
WHEREAS, Captain Rabun has one sister, Tammy MacTavish, and one brother,6
Clay Rabun; and7
WHEREAS, he is married to the former Jane Watson from Philadelphia,8
Pennsylvania, and has two daughters, Carolyn, who attends Texas Christian University and9
Amy, a freshman at Maranatha Christian School; and10
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Louisiana, Captain Rabun attended Farmerville11
High School and entered the United States Naval Academy upon graduation; and12
WHEREAS, Captain Rabun graduated from the naval academy in 1984 and went on13
to earn a master's degree in statistics in Monterey, California; and14
WHEREAS, as a surface line officer, Captain Rabun courageously served our15
country in the Persian Gulf on several tours of duty; and16
WHEREAS, Captain Rabun served as United States Navy Chief of Staff for the Joint17
Task Force in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and most recently as a commanding officer and18
professor of naval science for Naval ROTC San Diego; and19
WHEREAS, his other duty station tours include: Millington, Tennessee; Washington,20
D.C.; and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and21 HLS 14RS-3075	ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, Captain Rabun has bravely served on many U.S. Naval vessels1
including the USS Cape St. George, USS Chosin, USS Chancellorsville, and served as the2
decommissioning commanding officer of the USS Valley Forge; and3
WHEREAS, Captain Rabun retired from active service on April 25, 2014, after4
selflessly dedicating thirty years to the service of the United States.5
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby6
offer the most sincere congratulations to Captain Patrick C. Rabun on the occasion of his7
retirement from an outstanding career in the United States Navy; does hereby recognize and8
record for posterity his vital contributions and his tireless dedication to military excellence;9
does hereby express enduring appreciation for the tremendous honor he brings to the citizens10
of Louisiana and to his country; and does hereby wish him and his family happiness in their11
future endeavors.12
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted13
to Captain Patrick C.  Rabun.14
