HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 181
BY REPRESENTATIVES ST. GERMAIN, BARROW, CHAMPAGNE, HILL, HODGES,
KATRINA JACKSON, NANCY LANDRY, MORENO, NORTON, SMI TH,
STOKES, THIERRY, WHITNEY, AND WOODRUFF AND SENATORS
BROOME, BUFFINGTON, DORSEY-COLOMB, AND PETERSON
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Wendy Alexandra Varisco of Covington, Louisiana,
upon her receipt of a 2014 Women of Excellence Award from the La. Legislative
Women's Caucus Foundation
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Wendy Alexandra Varisco of Covington upon her receipt of a 2014 Women2
of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation3
for her achievements and upon being a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's4
Caucus Foundation Scholarship.5
WHEREAS, Wendy Alexandra Varisco is an honor student at Covington High6
School, where she maintains a 4.5 grade point average and is enrolled in honors, advanced7
placement, and dual enrollment classes; and8
WHEREAS, Wendy is a champion horse rider and helped establish an equestrian9
team at her high school; she achieved national rankings in dressage through the United States10
Dressage Federation and received varsity letters all four years of high school in equestrian11
athletics; and12
WHEREAS, Wendy is also an award-winning member of the 4-H club, which she13
has participated in for the past nine years; her projects have included livestock, public14
speaking, and horseback riding; and15
WHEREAS, Wendy served on the Louisiana State 4-H Board, the Louisiana State16
4-H Citizenship Board, and has held the positions of secretary, vice president, and state17
president; she has also participated in the Louisiana 4-H Equine Program for the past nine18 HLS 14RS-4872	ORIGINAL

years, where she has competed at the district and state 4-H horse shows every summer and1
qualified for the Southern Regional 4-H Horse Show for the past five years; and2
WHEREAS, Wendy has traveled all across the country with her horses competing3
in competitions and has attended several Southern Regional 4-H Horse Shows, where she4
won the regional titles in the First Level Dressage Division for two years in a row; and5
WHEREAS, Wendy serves as the school columnist for the Times-Picayune and6
writes for her school's newspaper, the Lion's Roar; and7
WHEREAS, numerous awards and accolades have been bestowed upon Wendy in8
recognition of her achievements; she received the 3.5-Plus Grade Point Average Award9
every school year, the A+ Athletes Award from the WWL New Orleans News Station, the10
Principal's Leadership Award, the Outstanding Senior Award, the Highest Honors Award,11
the Covington High School Student of the Year Award, was admitted into the Covington12
High School Hall of Fame, and was recognized in the Inside Northside magazine; and13
WHEREAS, Wendy plans on attending a four-year university and major in public14
relations; and15
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the16
Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence17
across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and18
WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics19
of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are20
committed to community service to better society as a whole; and21
WHEREAS, Wendy Alexandra Varisco of Covington has been named a recipient of22
a 2014 Women of Excellence Award in the field of High School Woman of Excellence and23
also is a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for24
her accomplishments which demonstrate that she has truly excelled in her high school25
career; and26
WHEREAS, Wendy Varisco merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation27
for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is entirely28
appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Wendy Varisco upon her receipt29
of a 2014 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus30 HLS 14RS-4872	ORIGINAL

Foundation and of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship, which1
recognize her vital contributions to the citizens of Louisiana.2
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby3
commend Wendy Alexandra Varisco upon her receipt of a 2014 Women of Excellence4
Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation for her achievements5
and upon her receipt of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship,6
does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the citizens of7
Louisiana, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous honor and pride8
that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.9
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted10
to Wendy Alexandra Varisco.11
