HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 181
BY REPRESENTATIVES ST. GERMAIN, BARROW, CHAMPAGNE, HILL, HODGES,
KATRINA JACKSON, NANCY LANDRY, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH,
STOKES, THIERRY, WHITNEY, AND WOODRUFF AND SENATORS
BROOME, BUFFINGTON, DORSEY-COLOMB, AND PETERSON
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend Wendy Alexandra Varisco of Covington upon her receipt of a 2014 Women
of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation
for her achievements and upon being a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's
Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
WHEREAS, Wendy Alexandra Varisco is an honor student at Covington High
School, where she maintains a 4.5 grade point average and is enrolled in honors, advanced
placement, and dual enrollment classes; and
WHEREAS, Wendy is a champion horse rider and helped establish an equestrian
team at her high school; she achieved national rankings in dressage through the United States
Dressage Federation and received varsity letters all four years of high school in equestrian
athletics; and
WHEREAS, Wendy is also an award-winning member of the 4-H club, which she
has participated in for the past nine years; her projects have included livestock, public
speaking, and horseback riding; and
WHEREAS, Wendy served on the Louisiana State 4-H Board, the Louisiana State
4-H Citizenship Board, and has held the positions of secretary, vice president, and state
president; she has also participated in the Louisiana 4-H Equine Program for the past nine
years, where she has competed at the district and state 4-H horse shows every summer and
qualified for the Southern Regional 4-H Horse Show for the past five years; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 181

WHEREAS, Wendy has traveled all across the country with her horses competing
in competitions and has attended several Southern Regional 4-H Horse Shows, where she
won the regional titles in the First Level Dressage Division for two years in a row; and
WHEREAS, Wendy serves as the school columnist for the Times-Picayune and
writes for her school's newspaper, the Lion's Roar; and
WHEREAS, numerous awards and accolades have been bestowed upon Wendy in
recognition of her achievements; she received the 3.5-Plus Grade Point Average Award
every school year, the A+ Athletes Award from the WWL New Orleans News Station, the
Principal's Leadership Award, the Outstanding Senior Award, the Highest Honors Award,
the Covington High School Student of the Year Award, was admitted into the Covington
High School Hall of Fame, and was recognized in the Inside Northside magazine; and
WHEREAS, Wendy plans on attending a four-year university and major in public
relations; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation created the
Women of Excellence Awards to recognize and honor extraordinary women of excellence
across the state for their outstanding achievements and contributions; and
WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
WHEREAS, Wendy Alexandra Varisco of Covington has been named a recipient of
a 2014 Women of Excellence Award in the field of High School Woman of Excellence and
also is a recipient of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for
her accomplishments which demonstrate that she has truly excelled in her high school
career; and
WHEREAS, Wendy Varisco merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation
for her dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is entirely
appropriate for the Legislature of Louisiana to commend Wendy Varisco upon her receipt
of a 2014 Women of Excellence Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus
Foundation and of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship, which
recognize her vital contributions to the citizens of Louisiana. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 181

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Wendy Alexandra Varisco upon her receipt of a 2014 Women of Excellence
Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation for her achievements
and upon her receipt of a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship,
does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the citizens of
Louisiana, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous honor and pride
that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Wendy Alexandra Varisco.
