STOKES, THIERRY, WHITNEY, AND WOODRUFF AND SENATORS

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Girl Scouts Louisiana East of New Orleans, Louisiana,
upon its receipt of a 2014 Women of Excellence Award from the La. Legislative
Women's Caucus Foundation
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Girl Scouts Louisiana East of New Orleans, Louisiana, for being the Non-2
Profit of Excellence 2014 Women of Excellence Award recipient from the Louisiana3
Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation.4
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts was founded in 1912 to ensure that girls receive the same5
opportunities as boys; and6
WHEREAS, the council of Girl Scouts Louisiana East was formed in April 2008 and7
serves over 14,000 girls and 5,700 adult members in its 23 parishes; and 8
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts Louisiana East is the premier leadership development9
organization for girls in kindergarten to twelfth grade in southeast Louisiana; and10
WHEREAS, the mission of this organization is to build girls of courage, confidence,11
and character, who make the world a better place; and12
WHEREAS, the council most recently implemented a Girl Scouts Beyond Bars13
program for girls and their incarcerated mothers in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and14
Orleans Parish Prison and a healthy living program, "Sow What?", for high school girls in15
Orleans and St. Tammany parishes; and16
WHEREAS, the Girl Scout Leadership Experience is designed to help girls discover17

place; its activities are girl-led and encourage learning by doing and cooperative learning;1
and2
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts Louisiana East strives to offer programs that encourage3
healthy living, increase girls' involvement in science, technology, engineering, and math, and4
improve their financial literacy.5
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby6
commend Girl Scouts Louisiana East of New Orleans, Louisiana, for being the Non-Profit7
of Excellence 2014 Women of Excellence Award recipient from the Louisiana Legislative8
Women's Caucus Foundation and for being the premier leadership development organization9
for girls in southeast Louisiana. 10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted11
to the Girl Scouts Louisiana East of New Orleans, Louisiana.12
