HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 202

COMMENDATIONS: Commends Sgt. Chad Stafford, Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office,
for rescuing a two-year-old boy from drowning
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Sergeant Chad Stafford of the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office for his heroic2
rescue of a two-year-old boy from drowning.3
WHEREAS, Sergeant Chad Stafford is a veteran of more than fifteen years of the4
Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office, as well as a native and resident of Gonzales; and5
WHEREAS, one of the missions of the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office is to protect6
life; and7
WHEREAS, on May 13, 2014, Sergeant Stafford was in the performance of his8
duties as a civil process server with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office when he heard a9
child screaming at a pond on the grounds of the Mansions of Ivy Lakes apartment complex10
in Gonzales; and11
WHEREAS, Sergeant Stafford immediately ran to the bank of the pond and saw a12
two-year-old boy going under the water at the other end of the pond; and13
WHEREAS, Sergeant Stafford ran along the bank of the pond and then jumped into14
the water and swam to the child; and15
WHEREAS, when Sergeant Stafford arrived at the child only the child's feet were16
above water; and17
WHEREAS, the water at that location was over Sergeant Stafford's head; and 18
WHEREAS, Sergeant Stafford pulled the child's head out of the water and swam to19

WHEREAS, due to the prompt action of Sergeant Stafford, the child sustained no1
injuries from the near drowning; and2
WHEREAS, Sergeant Stafford should be commended for his selfless actions in3
saving the life of a child.4
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby5
commend the actions of Sergeant Chad Stafford in performing his duties as an Ascension6
Parish Sheriff's deputy to the highest standards and does hereby record for posterity his7
exemplary response to an emergency which resulted in a life-saving rescue.8
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that suitable copies of this Resolution be transmitted9
to Sergeant Chad Stafford and Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley.10
