COMMENDATIONS: Commends Aaron Brooks and John Carney on their election to the
Saints Hall of Fame
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Aaron Brooks and John Carney on their election to the Saints Hall of Fame.2
WHEREAS, Aaron Brooks became the Saints’ starting quarterback in November3
2000, and six weeks later, he led the team to its first playoff victory, a thirty-one to twenty-4
eight point triumph over the defending Super Bowl champion, St. Louis Rams, in the5
Superdome; and6
WHEREAS, hailing from the University of Virginia, Brooks would remain behind7
center in New Orleans for the next five seasons, starting a total of eighty-two regular-season8
games for the Black and Gold; and9
WHEREAS, Brooks ended his Saints career by completing 56.4 percent of his passes10
for nineteen thousand one hundred fifty-six yards, one hundred twenty touchdowns, and11
eighty-four interceptions; and12
WHEREAS, Brooks' touchdown total ranks second and his yardage total third in13
Saints history; however, his best season statistically was in 2003, when he completed a14
career-best 59.1 percent of his pass attempts and had an NFL-low interception rate of 1.515
percent; and16
WHEREAS, John Carney spent all or part of eight seasons with the Saints as part of17
a twenty-three year NFL career in which he became one of only three players in history to18
play in four decades and became one of only seven players to score more than two thousand19

WHEREAS, hailing from Notre Dame, Carney connected on a franchise record 82.81
percent of his field-goal attempts as a Saint, and his one hundred sixty-eight field goals2
made, two hundred three attempts, and seven hundred sixty-eight points scored all rank3
second in team history; and4
WHEREAS, of the almost five hundred placement attempts in Carney’s career as a5
Saint, perhaps his most famous was the game-winning field goal in the 2005 season opener6
against the Carolina Panthers, thirteen days after the region was ravaged by Hurricane7
Katrina; and8
WHEREAS, an image of Brooks congratulating Carney after his game-winning kick9
graced the cover of the September 19, 2005, issue of Sports Illustrated; and10
WHEREAS, both men have brought distinction and honor to the NFL and11
specifically to the Saints; and12
WHEREAS, Aaron Brooks and John Carney have been elected to the Saints Hall of13
Fame for the Class of 2014.14
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby15
congratulate Aaron Brooks and John Carney on their election to the New Orleans Saints Hall16
of Fame and commends them on their outstanding careers and the contributions they have17
made to the Saints, the city of New Orleans, and to the state of Louisiana.18
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this resolution be transmitted19
to Mr. Aaron Brooks and Mr. John Carney.20
