Tech University, upon his retirement after 40 years of dedicated and faithful service A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To commend Reggie Hanchey on forty years of dedicated and faithful service to Louisiana2 Tech University.3 WHEREAS, Reggie Hanchey was born in Merryville, Louisiana, the youngest of six4 children; and5 WHEREAS, Mr. Hanchey came to Louisiana Tech University in September of 1961,6 following his graduation from DeRidder High School; and7 WHEREAS, while he was a student at Louisiana Tech, he was actively involved in8 the Baptist Student Union and was a cheerleader; and9 WHEREAS, Mr. Hanchey graduated in 1965 with a degree in commercial art and10 following his graduation, he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort11 Worth, Texas, while serving as a minister of youth and activities at the First Baptist Church12 of Ruston; and13 WHEREAS, upon graduating with a Master of Religious Education in 1967, Reggie14 became the minister of music and youth at First Baptist Church of Ruston; and15 WHEREAS, in 1974, a new position, Assistant Director of Planning and16 Development, was created at the Tech Alumni House and Reggie accepted this position17 working under Colonel John Parker; and18 HLS 14RS-6126 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 220 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, in 1980, following the retirement of Colonel Jack Murphy in the1 president's office, Reggie became the Coordinator of Programs in President F. Jay Taylor's2 office; and3 WHEREAS, when Dr. Dan Reneau became president in 1987, Reggie Hanchey was4 asked to continue to serve in the same position; and5 WHEREAS, Mr. Hanchey worked diligently for twenty-six years in Dr. Reneau's6 office coordinating events for the president; and7 WHEREAS, in 2004, he became the manager of the Ropp Center, scheduling events8 and working closely with Aramark to provide services to the faculty and staff as well as9 visitors to the campus; and10 WHEREAS, Reggie Hanchey is married to Mary Celia Boggs Hanchey, who holds11 two degrees from Louisiana Tech University; is the father of four children, Cara Von Tress,12 Emily Hershey, Chris Hanchey, and Patrick Hanchey who are all Louisiana Tech graduates;13 and is the grandfather of thirteen grandchildren; and14 WHEREAS, Mr. Hanchey is retiring after 40 years of dedicated service at Louisiana15 Tech University; and16 WHEREAS, Mr. Hanchey has ensured that so many of the university's programs,17 activities, and events have been successful; and18 WHEREAS, Reggie Hanchey is known as a true gentleman, always smiling and19 always looking for opportunities to help out those in need; and20 WHEREAS, recently, Mr. Hanchey was presented with a Distinguished Service21 Award and Medal, only the twenty-fifth such award ever presented at Louisiana Tech.22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby23 commend and congratulate Reggie Hanchey on forty years of dedicated and faithful service24 to Louisiana Tech University and wishes him well on his retirement.25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted26 to Reggie Hanchey.27 HLS 14RS-6126 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 220 Page 3 of 3 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
