ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 32 BY REPRESENTATIVE MORENO A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend Susan G. Komen for the Cure and its Louisiana affiliates for improving the quality of life in local communities through the delivery of breast cancer education, screening, treatment, and research, and to recognize Tuesday, April 29, 2014, as Komen for the Cure Day at the Legislature of Louisiana. WHEREAS, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and advocates fighting together to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all, and energize science to find breast cancer cures; and WHEREAS, except for skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women in the United States; and WHEREAS, among the fifty states, Louisiana had the highest rate of breast cancer mortality in 2013, despite the fact that the breast cancer incidence rate in Louisiana is lower than the national average; and WHEREAS, this year in Louisiana, it is estimated that over three thousand new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in women, and over six hundred Louisiana women will die of the disease, many of them facing a late-stage diagnosis involving fewer treatment options and lower chances of survival; and WHEREAS, Louisiana has the fourth highest uninsured rate in the United States and, as a consequence, many women choose to delay or completely forego the breast cancer screenings that are a key to surviving this disease; and WHEREAS, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and its Louisiana affiliates honor their mission to save lives and end breast cancer forever by advocating to preserve full state funding and matching federal funding to the Louisiana Breast and Cervical Health Program; full funding of the Louisiana Breast and Cervical Health Program will ensure that the program continues to provide breast cancer early detection services to women in the state; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 32 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Susan G. Komen for the Cure continues its mission locally, nationally, and globally to identify the cures that will end breast cancer as a life-threatening disease and to provide community-based support to the women and men who are fighting breast cancer today, including those in the state of Louisiana. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Susan G. Komen for the Cure and its Louisiana affiliates for their unwavering dedication to fight against breast cancer and does hereby recognize Tuesday, April 29, 2014, as Susan G.
