HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 37

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend Apache Corporation for its responsible and sustainable environmental
stewardship and dedication to protecting the coastal wetlands of Louisiana through
its commitment to coastal restoration and reforestation through the planting of trees
in the coastal areas of Louisiana and to enhancing the quality of life in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, Apache Corporation is an independent oil and gas exploration and
production company with global and domestic operations including operations located in
South Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Apache owns over three hundred thirty thousand mineral fee acres (two
hundred seventy thousand surface acres) in South Louisiana and participates in and oversees
numerous major wetland protection and restoration projects each year out of its Houma
office, including the St. Louis Canal Freshwater Introduction Project, North Lake Boudreaux
Shoreline Protection and Marsh Creation Project, and restoring the Lake DeCade Shoreline;
and
WHEREAS, Apache Corporation has established its Tree Grant Program, which
makes trees for planting in the coastal areas available to nonprofit and governmental entities
each year; and
WHEREAS, Apache Corporation has donated nearly three million seven hundred
thousand trees in seventeen states since the Tree Grant Program began in 2005, with more
than one million seven hundred thousand of those being donated in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, in addition, during the 2013-2014 planting season, Apache Corporation
donated one hundred seventy-five thousand trees to the Black Bear Conservation Coalition;
four thousand trees to the Hike for KaTREEna in New Orleans; three thousand trees to the
Boys Scouts of America Evangeline Area Council to be planted at the Atchafalaya Welcome
Center; one thousand trees to St. Bernard Parish; one thousand native trees to the Terrebonne ENROLLEDHCR NO. 37

Parish Tree Board; one hundred seventy-five trees to the city of Kenner; one hundred fifty
trees to Abita Springs Friends of the Park; one hundred trees to Keep Hammond Beautiful;
one hundred trees to Lafayette Consolidated Government; and fifty trees to St. Mary Parish
Soil and Water Conservation District.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
recognize, commend, and congratulate Apache Corporation for its responsible and
sustainable environmental stewardship and dedication to protecting the coastal wetlands of
Louisiana through its wetland restoration work and its commitment to reforestation through
the planting of trees in the coastal areas of Louisiana and to enhancing the quality of life in
Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Apache Corporation for excellence in corporate citizenship.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be forwarded
to the Chief Executive Officer of Apache Corporation and to the Vice President of
governmental affairs for Apache Corporation.
