HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 44
BY REPRESENTATIVE CARTER
COMMENDATIONS: Commends the University High boys' basketball team upon winning
the Class 3A state championship
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend the University High School boys' basketball team upon winning the Class 3A2
state championship title and to congratulate the Cubs on an outstanding 2013-20143
season.4
WHEREAS, the Cubs captured the Class 3A title in a 69-64 victory over Richwood5
High School at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association-State Farm Boys Top 286
tournament, which is their first state title since 2004; and7
WHEREAS, Head Coach Joe Spencer prepared the Cubs by instilling in the team the8
confidence and skills that are needed for continued success in the future; and9
WHEREAS, University High School is the first school since 2011 to capture boys10
and girls state titles in the same season; and11
WHEREAS, all members of the University High School boys' basketball team12
deserve merit recognition for their outstanding performance; it is appropriate to commend13
title-game outstanding player, Wayde Sims, for finishing with a team-high of nineteen points14
on seven-for-twelve shooting and leading the Cubs with nine rebounds, while Maxwell15
Starwood added eighteen points on seven-for-ten shooting; and16
WHEREAS, the University High School Cubs bring a commanding sense of honor17
and immense pride to their school, community, and the state of Louisiana.18
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby19
commend and congratulate the members of the University High School boys' basketball team20
and Head Coach Joe Spencer for winning the Class 3A state title at the Louisiana High21 HLS 14RS-1994 ORIGINAL

School Athletic Association-State Farm Boys Top 28 tournament, and for completing a1
successful 2013-2014 season through such dedicated performance, which brings honor to2
their school, community, and the state of Louisiana.3
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted4
to Head Coach Joe Spencer.5
