BY REPRESENTATIVE JEFFERSON AND SENATOR GALLOT
COMMENDATIONS: Commends the New Living Word boys' basketball team upon
winning the 2014 Class C basketball state championship
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend the New Living Word High School boys' basketball team upon winning the2
2014 Class C state championship.3
WHEREAS, the New Living Word High School boys' basketball team completed a4
sensational season, earning the title of 2014 Class C state champions after defeating Sicily5
Island High School by a score of 91-72 to win the thrilling state championship game in Lake6
Charles; and7
WHEREAS, the New Living Word Lions finished the stellar season with a 33-88
record, went undefeated against their district rivals, and locked up the number-two seed in9
the Class C state tournament; and10
WHEREAS, the Lions secured a spot in the championship game with successive11
blowout wins over Phoenix, Reeves, and Atlanta in the Louisiana High School Athletic12
Association State Farm Top 28 Boys' Basketball Tournament; and13
WHEREAS, Javier Roper and Tracy Hampton each scored twenty-eight points to14
lead the Lions to their first state title; and15
WHEREAS, the team also consisted of Alijown Mason, Fredrion Evans, Xavious16
Williams, Kwantavious Harris, Rashaan Proctor, Rontravion Bryant, Kenneth Price, Justin17
Onwuzulike, Jeremy Patton, and Jason Boley; and18
WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence19
throughout the 2013-2014 season and playoffs, and each of these intrepid Lions deserves20

WHEREAS, the Lions have made a Top 28 Boys' Basketball Tournament appearance1
in all three years of the New Living Word's basketball program and have averaged thirty2
wins per season; and3
WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved4
without the guidance and skills of head coach Jerry Baldwin, assistant coaches Willie5
Shelton Richardson, Larry Proctor, and Antarrian Griffin, and managers, Al Traylor and6
Jaylon Jackson, as well as all of the other individuals who contribute to the success of the7
school's basketball program; and8
WHEREAS, the team's outstanding 2013-2014 season upholds the glorious tradition9
of the Lions, and all New Living Word High School alumni and fans recognize the immense10
pride and distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and state.11
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby12
commend the New Living Word High School boys' basketball team upon winning the 201413
Class C state championship and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and14
everyone involved with this fine basketball program as they celebrate their exceptional15
season and prepare for continued success in the future.16
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted17
to Jerry Baldwin, head coach of the New Living Word High School boys' basketball team.18
