ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 56 BY REPRESENTATIVE JEFFERSON AND SENATOR GALLOT A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend the New Living Word High School boys' basketball team upon winning the 2014 Class C state championship. WHEREAS, the New Living Word High School boys' basketball team completed a sensational season, earning the title of 2014 Class C state champions after defeating Sicily Island High School by a score of 91-72 to win the thrilling state championship game in Lake Charles; and WHEREAS, the New Living Word Lions finished the stellar season with a 33-8 record, went undefeated against their district rivals, and locked up the number-two seed in the Class C state tournament; and WHEREAS, the Lions secured a spot in the championship game with successive blowout wins over Phoenix, Reeves, and Atlanta in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Farm Top 28 Boys' Basketball Tournament; and WHEREAS, Javier Roper and Tracy Hampton each scored twenty-eight points to lead the Lions to their first state title; and WHEREAS, the team also consisted of Alijown Mason, Fredrion Evans, Xavious Williams, Kwantavious Harris, Rashaan Proctor, Rontravion Bryant, Kenneth Price, Justin Onwuzulike, Jeremy Patton, and Jason Boley; and WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence throughout the 2013-2014 season and playoffs, and each of these intrepid Lions deserves recognition for his vital contribution to the winning effort; and WHEREAS, the Lions have made a Top 28 Boys' Basketball Tournament appearance in all three years of the New Living Word's basketball program and have averaged thirty wins per season; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 56 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved without the guidance and skills of head coach Jerry Baldwin, assistant coaches Willie Shelton Richardson, Larry Proctor, and Antarrian Griffin, and managers, Al Traylor and Jaylon Jackson, as well as all of the other individuals who contribute to the success of the school's basketball program; and WHEREAS, the team's outstanding 2013-2014 season upholds the glorious tradition of the Lions, and all New Living Word High School alumni and fans recognize the immense pride and distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and state. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the New Living Word High School boys' basketball team upon winning the 2014 Class C state championship and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and everyone involved with this fine basketball program as they celebrate their exceptional season and prepare for continued success in the future. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Jerry Baldwin, head coach of the New Living Word High School boys' basketball team.
