SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Recognizes April 16, 2014, as National Multiple
Sclerosis Society Public Policy Conference Day at the state capitol
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To recognize Wednesday, April 16, 2014, as the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Public2
Policy Conference Day at the state capitol and to encourage efforts to inform3
Louisianians about multiple sclerosis.4
WHEREAS, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a lifelong, unpredictable, and often disabling5
disease of the central nervous system; and6
WHEREAS, MS affects an estimated 2.5 million people worldwide, three-quarters7
of whom are women, and most people are diagnosed during the prime-of-life years, ages8
twenty through fifty; and9
WHEREAS, a community of Louisianians, along with the National Multiple10
Sclerosis Society, are committed to doing something about MS now; they support programs11
and services to enhance the lives of people affected by MS, raise funds and awareness12
through Bike MS and Walk MS events, and invest in research toward a cure for the disease;13
and14
WHEREAS, today is the day of the National Multiple Sclerosis 2014 Louisiana15
Public Policy Conference, a gathering of MS activists committed to creating positive change16
through advocacy for Louisianians affected by MS and other chronic conditions; and17
WHEREAS, though much still remains to be done, the work of the National Multiple18
Sclerosis Society and other organizations working on behalf of those with MS is helping to19
create a dynamic movement with the ultimate goal of achieving a world free of MS.20 HLS 14RS-2286	ORIGINAL

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby1
recognize Wednesday, April 16, 2014, as National Multiple Sclerosis Society Public Policy2
Conference Day at the state capitol and encourages efforts to inform Louisianians about MS3
and efforts that help bring us closer to a world free of MS.4
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted5
to the president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.6
