ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 57 BY REPRESENTATIVE STOKES A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To recognize Wednesday, April 16, 2014, as the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Public Policy Conference Day at the state capitol and to encourage efforts to inform Louisianians about multiple sclerosis. WHEREAS, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a lifelong, unpredictable, and often disabling disease of the central nervous system; and WHEREAS, MS affects an estimated 2.5 million people worldwide, three-quarters of whom are women, and most people are diagnosed during the prime-of-life years, ages twenty through fifty; and WHEREAS, a community of Louisianians, along with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, are committed to doing something about MS now; they support programs and services to enhance the lives of people affected by MS, raise funds and awareness through Bike MS and Walk MS events, and invest in research toward a cure for the disease; and WHEREAS, today is the day of the National Multiple Sclerosis 2014 Louisiana Public Policy Conference, a gathering of MS activists committed to creating positive change through advocacy for Louisianians affected by MS and other chronic conditions; and WHEREAS, though much still remains to be done, the work of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and other organizations working on behalf of those with MS is helping to create a dynamic movement with the ultimate goal of achieving a world free of MS. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 57 Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, April 16, 2014, as National Multiple Sclerosis Society Public Policy Conference Day at the state capitol and encourages efforts to inform Louisianians about MS and efforts that help bring us closer to a world free of MS. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
