HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 65
BY REPRESENTATIVES SEABAUGH, BURFORD, HENRY BURNS, CARMODY,
FANNIN, JEFFERSON, JAY MORRIS, PYLANT, REYNOLDS, SHADOIN,
TALBOT, THOMPSON, AND PATRICK WILLIAMS
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the Louisiana Tech University Bulldogs men's basketball team, head coach,
assistant coaches, athletic director, and university president for their outstanding
2013-2014 season.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs men's basketball team finished the season
with a record of twenty-nine wins and advanced to the quarterfinals of the National
Invitation Tournament (NIT) after performing at high levels of excellence; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana Tech made their second consecutive and eighth overall
appearance in the NIT; and
WHEREAS, the Bulldogs earned an automatic spot into the postseason tournament
by earning the number one seed in the Conference USA Tournament after claiming the
Conference USA regular season championship in their first year as a member of Conference
USA; and
WHEREAS, the Bulldogs were led by four seniors, Chris Anderson, Cordarius
Johnson, Jaron Johnson, and Kenyon McNeail, who have each contributed greatly to the
success of the Louisiana Tech University Bulldogs men's basketball team along with other
team members, Raheem Appleby, Josh Butler, Leo Edwards, Stojan Gjuroski, Alex
Hamilton, Michale Kyser, Isaiah Massey, Erik McCree, Kenneth Smith, and Gilbert Talbot;
and
WHEREAS, the exemplary accomplishments of the Bulldogs could not have been
achieved without the guidance and skills of their Head Coach Michael White, Assistant
Coach Isaac Brown, Assistant Coach Derrick Jones, Assistant Coach Dusty May, Athletics
Director Tommy McClelland, II, and President Leslie Guice, all of whom have demonstrated ENROLLEDHCR NO. 65

the kind of leadership and motivational skills needed to produce winners both on the
basketball court and in life; and
WHEREAS, the Bulldogs captured a thrilling 89-88 victory over Iona in the first
round of the NIT after Iona reclaimed the one-point advantage twice in the final seventy
seconds of the heart-pounding game and the Bulldogs pulled through and captured victory
with the game winning, last second shot to advance to the second round of the NIT; and
WHEREAS, the Bulldogs traveled to Athens, Georgia, and defeated the University
of Georgia (UGA), 79-71, in the second round of the NIT as the Bulldogs raced out to a
twenty-six point first half lead and showed their dominance and teamwork by skillfully
repelling a late Georgia rally; and
WHEREAS, with the win over UGA, the 2013-2014 Bulldogs men's basketball team
tied the basketball program record with twenty-nine victories and advanced to the
quarterfinal round of the NIT to compete against Florida State University in Tallahassee,
Florida; and
WHEREAS, in the quarterfinal round of the NIT, the Bulldogs maintained the
highest level of sportmanship and displayed great character; the quarterfinal game ended
with a last second shot falling just short in a thrilling, but disappointing 78-75 loss for the
Bulldogs; and
WHEREAS, the talents and determination of the Louisiana Tech University Bulldogs
men's basketball team provided their fans with exciting basketball competition; and
WHEREAS, the members and coaches of the Louisiana Tech University men's
basketball team merit a sincere measure of commendation for their remarkable athletic feats
and for the honor they have brought to Louisiana Tech University.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the members of the Louisiana Tech University Bulldogs men's basketball team,
Head Coach Michael White, Assistant Coach Isaac Brown, Assistant Coach Derrick Jones,
Assistant Coach Dusty May, Athletics Director Tommy McClelland, II, and President Leslie
Guice for their outstanding achievements during the 2013-2014 season, which included
competing in the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament, and does hereby
extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride that they have brought to Louisiana
Tech University, the community, and state of Louisiana. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 65

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Head Coach Michael White.
