BY REPRESENTATIVES ORTEGO AND GUILLORY
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Ben Mouton upon his selection as a representative of
Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Ben Mouton of St. Thomas More High School upon his selection as a2
representative of the state of Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership3
Congress in Chicago, Illinois.4
WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program (HOBY) was established5
in 1958 by the popular actor, Hugh O'Brian, following a visit to Africa where he was6
inspired after meeting with Dr. Albert Schweitzer to create an organization designed to7
encourage young people to take a leadership role in society and become catalysts for change;8
and9
WHEREAS, Ben Mouton, the son of Ann Maria Mouton, attended the Hugh O'Brian10
Youth Leadership Seminar held in June 2013, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and11
WHEREAS, Ben Mouton was joined at the leadership seminar by one hundred thirty12
other young leaders representing their high schools throughout Louisiana, where they13
discussed the core values of the HOBY organization, including the impact of volunteering14
in one's community, partnership in community, and an appreciation and need for diversity15
in today's culture; and16
WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress is held every year in17
conjunction with a major United States university, and the World Leadership Congress18
brings together young men and women from around the world for a weeklong intensive19

WHEREAS, Ben Mouton was chosen to represent Louisiana in the Hugh O'Brian1
World Leadership Congress being held in July 2014, at the Loyola University Chicago; and2
WHEREAS, at the World Leadership Congress, students learn firsthand about other3
cultures and opinions, form friendships, and exchange ideas in an environment where they4
can feel comfortable in open discussions with their peers, while learning to voice how they5
have shaped and formed their own views about the role of leadership in society; and6
WHEREAS, Hugh O'Brian believes the most important thing in education is to teach7
young people to think for themselves; the more than three hundred seventy-five thousand8
HOBY alumni demonstrate how this belief has influenced and inspired young people to9
become more involved in their communities; and10
WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress seeks to inspire high11
school students to excel as leaders by using friendship with others as a catalyst for their12
learning experiences.13
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby14
commend and congratulate Ben Mouton of St. Thomas More High School upon his selection15
as a representative at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress in Chicago, Illinois, and16
does hereby recognize the immense pride and honor that this outstanding young man has17
brought to his family, friends, school, community, and state.18
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted19
to Ben Mouton.20
