HLS 14RS-3145 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 86 BY REPRESENTATIVES PIERRE, BARRAS, STUART BISHOP, NANCY LANDRY, TERRY LANDRY, MONTOUCET, ORTEGO, AND ROBIDEAUX AND SENATORS CORTEZ, GUILLORY, MILLS, AND PERRY COMMENDATIONS: Commends the St. Thomas More volleyball team upon winning the 2013 Division II state championship A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To commend the St. Thomas More High School volleyball team upon winning the 20132 Division II state championship.3 WHEREAS, in November of 2013, the St. Thomas More High School volleyball4 team earned the title of 2013 District II state champions by defeating the Terriers of5 Vandebilt Catholic High School at the Pontchartrain Center; and6 WHEREAS, St. Thomas More swept the championship event by winning three out7 of three sets with respective scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-20; and8 WHEREAS, the thrilling state championship win, which marked the third state title9 in four years for the Cougars, was the culmination of another unforgettable season for the10 team; and11 WHEREAS, the team finished the season with an overall record of thirty-eight wins12 and only nine losses and an undefeated district record of six wins and zero losses and has13 won an incredible twenty-two consecutive district titles; and14 WHEREAS, the members of the team, Caroline Adams, Kathleen Alexander, Maddy15 Aucoin, Kirsten Auzenne, Kali Calkins, Michelle Gautreaux, Molly Jacobson, Jaime Landry,16 Kayla McCollum, Emma McKay, Julia Romero, Michaela Smith, and Morgan Vincent,17 performed at the highest level of excellence, and each of these great Cougars deserves18 recognition for her vital contributions to the winning effort; and19 HLS 14RS-3145 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 86 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, head coach Jessica Burke, who was named the state volleyball Coach1 of the Year, also merits special recognition, along with the other individuals who contribute2 to the team's success; and3 WHEREAS, the team's outstanding season upholds the glorious tradition of the4 Cougars, and all St. Thomas More High School alumni and fans recognize the immense5 pride and distinguished honor that the team brings to its school, community, and state.6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby7 commend the St. Thomas More High School volleyball team upon winning the 2013 District8 II state championship and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, head coach Jessica9 Burke, and everyone involved with this fine volleyball program as they celebrate their10 exceptional season and prepare for continued success in the future.11 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted12 to Coach Jessica Burke.13 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
