SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Commends our United States Armed Forces and
recognizes May 2014, as Military Appreciation Month
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend the members of the United States Armed Forces for their service and to2
recognize May 2014, as Military Appreciation Month.3
WHEREAS, the vigilance of the members of the armed forces has been instrumental4
to the preservation of the freedom, security, and prosperity enjoyed by the people of the5
United States; and6
WHEREAS, the armed forces are spread around the world in more than one hundred7
fifty countries, protecting American lives and interests, and being forever vigilant that its8
citizens are safe as they travel throughout the country and the world; and 9
WHEREAS, the success of the armed forces depends on the dedicated service of its10
members, their families, and the civilian employees of the Department of Defense; and11
WHEREAS, service in the armed forces entails special hazards and demands12
extraordinary sacrifices from service members and their families, which enhances the13
effectiveness and capabilities of the armed forces; and 14
WHEREAS, the observance of events recognizing the many contributions of the15
armed forces is a tangible and highly effective way of sustaining morale, improving quality16
of life for service members and their families, and communicating to our service members17
our vast appreciation for their dedicated and selfless service; and18
WHEREAS, the month of May, and in particular Memorial Day being observed this19
year on May twenty-sixth, is traditionally recognized as a time of honor and recognition of20
this nation's armed forces who have given their lives protecting this country's interests.21 HLS 14RS-3398 ORIGINAL

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby1
commend all members of the United States Armed Forces and recognize that their services2
and sacrifices are vital to the future of the United States, and this legislature does, in honor3
of these brave Americans, hereby proclaim the month of May 2014, as Military Appreciation4
Month in the Louisiana Legislature.5
