ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 103 BY REPRESENTATIVE LEOPOLD A RESOLUTION To commend the organizers and volunteers of the 2014 Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival. WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the organizers and volunteers of the Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival, held annually in December in Buras, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, it was in 1947 that the citizens of Plaquemines Parish organized the first Plaquemines Parish Orange Festival to promote the cultivation and marketing of the parish's citrus crop; and WHEREAS, renamed the Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival in 1955, this unique event has long been a beloved tradition for the people of Plaquemines Parish and beyond; and WHEREAS, the Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival is a family-friendly celebration featuring the parish's signature food, entertainment, contests, crafts, novelties, and hospitality; and WHEREAS, Jade Duplessis, a young woman of many gifts and talents, reigns as the current Orange Queen with great distinction and dedication; and WHEREAS, the organizers and volunteers of the Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival have persevered through numerous freezes and hurricanes, earning the respect, admiration, and enduring appreciation of their fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, the organizers and volunteers of the 2014 Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival merit a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for the tremendous pride and honor that this wonderful annual event brings to the citizens of Louisiana. ENROLLEDHR NO. 103 Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the organizers and volunteers of the 2014 Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival and does hereby recognize this extraordinary fair and festival as an integral part of the culture and history of Plaquemines Parish and the state of Louisiana.
