HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 108

COMMENDATIONS: Commends and expresses appreciation to the Honorable Jared
Brossett for his service to Orleans Parish and the state of Louisiana
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the Honorable Jared Christopher Brossett and to express enduring gratitude for2
his outstanding contributions to Orleans Parish and the state of Louisiana,3
particularly during his tenure as a distinguished member of the Louisiana House of4
Representatives.5
WHEREAS, Jared Brossett is a public servant who has served with excellence as a6
state representative since taking office in 2009, during which time he has fully used every7
opportunity to serve the citizens of his district and the state in an honorable and dedicated8
manner; and9
WHEREAS, Representative Brossett was born and raised in New Orleans and10
graduated from McDonogh 35 Senior High School, Xavier University, where he earned a11
bachelor's degree in political science, and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government's12
Senior Executives Program; and13
WHEREAS, on May 2, 2009, Jared Christopher Brossett was elected to the House14
of Representatives to represent the citizens of District 97; and15
WHEREAS, prior to his service in the House of Representatives, Representative16
Brossett, served as chief of staff for Cynthia Hedge-Morrell, who held the District D city17
council seat on the New Orleans City Council; and18 HLS 14RS-3218 ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, Representative Brossett also previously served as a board member of1
the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts High School, Gentilly Development District, and2
St. Paul's Homecoming Center; and3
WHEREAS, during his tenure in the legislature, Representative Brossett served as4
a member of the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, the House Committee on5
House and Governmental Affairs, where he was an important and influential voice for6
Orleans Parish during redistricting, and the House Committee on Municipal, Parochial and7
Cultural Affairs; and8
WHEREAS, in addition to these committee assignments, Representative Brossett has9
served as chairman of the Select Committee on Hurricane Recovery and as a member of the10
Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, the House Select Committee on Homeland11
Security, and the Joint Committee on Homeland Security; and12
WHEREAS, Representative Brossett has also served as a member of the Democratic13
Caucus, the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus, and the Orleans Parish Delegation; and14
WHEREAS, Representative Brossett has worked on and supported many important15
pieces of legislation, including legislation providing for greater accountability and oversight16
of Hurricane Katrina recovery programs, protecting and securing the public colleges and17
universities in Orleans Parish, and fighting street violence in New Orleans; and18
WHEREAS, on February 1, 2014, Representative Brossett was elected to the New19
Orleans City Council, representing District D; and20
WHEREAS, Representative Brossett's success as a legislator and public servant is21
a source of great pride and inspiration for all who know and love him, and it is appropriate22
to recognize his outstanding tenure in this body; and23
WHEREAS, as he prepares to begin the next exciting and productive chapter of his24
life, Representative Brossett merits a sincere measure of commendation for his singular25
contributions and the exemplary strides he has taken as an exceptional member of the26
Louisiana House of Representatives.27
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the28
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Honorable Jared C. Brossett, does hereby29
extend honor and recognition to him for his outstanding accomplishments, particularly30 HLS 14RS-3218 ORIGINAL

during his tenure as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, which has been1
marked by his uncompromising endeavor to improve the welfare of his constituents in2
Orleans Parish and the citizens of the state of Louisiana, and does hereby pay tribute to him3
for the generous and effective way in which he has dedicated his intelligence and his energy4
to the service of his family, friends, community, and state.5
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Louisiana House of Representatives does6
hereby express enduring gratitude to Representative Brossett for his service to the citizens7
of Louisiana, as evidenced by his superlative achievements as a member of this distinguished8
body, does hereby congratulate him upon his election to the New Orleans City Council, and9
does hereby extend to him the best wishes of all of his colleagues for continued prosperity10
and success in his future endeavors.11
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted12
to Councilman-elect Jared Brossett.13
