HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 108
BY REPRESENTATIVES LEGER, ABRAMSON, ARNOLD, BADON, WESLEY
BISHOP, AND MORENO
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Honorable Jared Christopher Brossett and to express enduring gratitude for
his outstanding contributions to Orleans Parish and the state of Louisiana,
particularly during his tenure as a distinguished member of the Louisiana House of
Representatives.
WHEREAS, Jared Brossett is a public servant who has served with excellence as a
state representative since taking office in 2009, during which time he has fully used every
opportunity to serve the citizens of his district and the state in an honorable and dedicated
manner; and
WHEREAS, Representative Brossett was born and raised in New Orleans and
graduated from McDonogh 35 Senior High School, Xavier University, where he earned a
bachelor's degree in political science, and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government's
Senior Executives Program; and
WHEREAS, on May 2, 2009, Jared Christopher Brossett was elected to the House
of Representatives to represent the citizens of District 97; and
WHEREAS, prior to his service in the House of Representatives, Representative
Brossett, served as chief of staff for Cynthia Hedge-Morrell, who held the District D city
council seat on the New Orleans City Council; and
WHEREAS, Representative Brossett also previously served as a board member of
the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts High School, Gentilly Development District, and
St. Paul's Homecoming Center; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure in the legislature, Representative Brossett served as
a member of the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, the House Committee on
House and Governmental Affairs, where he was an important and influential voice for ENROLLEDHR NO. 108

Orleans Parish during redistricting, and the House Committee on Municipal, Parochial and
Cultural Affairs; and
WHEREAS, in addition to these committee assignments, Representative Brossett has
served as chairman of the Select Committee on Hurricane Recovery and as a member of the
Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget, the House Select Committee on Homeland
Security, and the Joint Committee on Homeland Security; and
WHEREAS, Representative Brossett has also served as a member of the Democratic
Caucus, the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus, and the Orleans Parish Delegation; and
WHEREAS, Representative Brossett has worked on and supported many important
pieces of legislation, including legislation providing for greater accountability and oversight
of Hurricane Katrina recovery programs, protecting and securing the public colleges and
universities in Orleans Parish, and fighting street violence in New Orleans; and
 WHEREAS, on February 1, 2014, Representative Brossett was elected to the New
Orleans City Council, representing District D; and
WHEREAS, Representative Brossett's success as a legislator and public servant is
a source of great pride and inspiration for all who know and love him, and it is appropriate
to recognize his outstanding tenure in this body; and
WHEREAS, as he prepares to begin the next exciting and productive chapter of his
life, Representative Brossett merits a sincere measure of commendation for his singular
contributions and the exemplary strides he has taken as an exceptional member of the
Louisiana House of Representatives.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Honorable Jared C. Brossett, does hereby
extend honor and recognition to him for his outstanding accomplishments, particularly
during his tenure as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, which has been
marked by his uncompromising endeavor to improve the welfare of his constituents in
Orleans Parish and the citizens of the state of Louisiana, and does hereby pay tribute to him
for the generous and effective way in which he has dedicated his intelligence and his energy
to the service of his family, friends, community, and state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Louisiana House of Representatives does
hereby express enduring gratitude to Representative Brossett for his service to the citizens ENROLLEDHR NO. 108

of Louisiana, as evidenced by his superlative achievements as a member of this distinguished
body, does hereby congratulate him upon his election to the New Orleans City Council, and
does hereby extend to him the best wishes of all of his colleagues for continued prosperity
and success in his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Councilman-elect Jared Brossett.
