HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 118

CONDOLENCES:  Expresses condolences upon the death of Rosie Guidry Harris
A RESOLUTION1
To express the condolences of the Louisiana House of Representatives upon the death of2
Rosie Guidry Harris of Gretna and to recognize and record her contributions to her3
community and state.4
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the5
Louisiana House of Representatives learned of the death of Rosie Guidry Harris of Gretna6
on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the age of ninety-four; and7
WHEREAS, Rosie Guidry Harris, a native of Cut Off, Louisiana, was a resident of8
Gretna; she was the beloved wife of the late Clyde A. Harris, Sr., by first marriage and the9
late Ray A. Gremillion, Sr., by second marriage; and10
WHEREAS, Rosie Guidry Harris was an active member of her community and11
devoted to her loving family; and12
WHEREAS, Rosie Guidry Harris's passion for her children, family, and the French13
language will forever be remembered because she was a woman who influenced others by14
her dynamic spirit; and15
WHEREAS, Ms. Harris was humbled to be chosen as an "unofficial" interpreter16
during World War II in France; and 17
WHEREAS, Rosie Guidry Harris founded a West Bank chapter of Les Amis du18
CODOFIL in her living room in 1979; she continued to teach a French immersion class,19

WHEREAS, in 2002, Ms. Harris was presented the Prix de Louisiane for her work1
during a French Mass at St. Louis Cathedral in celebration of Bastille Day; and2
WHEREAS, Rosie Guidry Harris was a member of the Twilight Garden Club,3
Timberlane Garden Club, Gretna Historical Society, and St. Joseph and St. Cletus Catholic4
churches; and5
WHEREAS, the members of the Louisiana House of Representatives wish to6
recognize Mrs. Harris for her numerous contributions to Gretna, Louisiana, and especially7
wish to convey their deepest sympathy to her family: her loving children, Kathleen Harris8
Little, Clyde A. "Skip" Harris, Jr., and Ronnie C. Harris; her brother, Robert F. Guidry; her9
grandchildren, Laura, David, Andrew, Emily, and William; and her great-grandchildren, Isla,10
Taylor, Collin, Lucas, Trace, Noah, and Lance.11
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the12
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express its sincere and heartfelt condolences to the13
family of Rosie Guidry Harris.14
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted15
to the family of Rosie Guidry Harris.16
