BY REPRESENTATIVE FOIL
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the members of the Baton Rouge Magnet High School
Science Bowl Team who participated in the 2014 National Science Bowl
Competition
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the members of the Baton Rouge Magnet High School Science Bowl Team2
upon their participation in the 2014 National Science Bowl and their fourth-place3
finish.4
WHEREAS, created in 1991 by the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Science5
Bowl encourages and motivates students to excel in science and mathematics and to pursue6
careers in these fields; and7
WHEREAS, the National Science Bowl is a nationwide competition that tests8
students' knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics disciplines, including biology,9
chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy, and math; and10
WHEREAS, as one of the nation's largest science competitions for high school and11
middle school students, more than two hundred thirty thousand students have participated12
in the National Science Bowl throughout its twenty-four-year history; and13
WHEREAS, science bowl teams consist of four students, one alternate, and a coach,14
who compete in a fast paced verbal forum to solve technical problems and answer questions15
in all categories of science and math; and16
WHEREAS, having won the regional event, the Baton Rouge Magnet High School17
Science Bowl Team qualified to participate in the National Science Bowl event held in18
Washington, D.C., on April 24 through 28, 2014; and19 HLS 14RS-4265	ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, the talented team members performed at the highest level throughout1
the national event, and each member deserves and merits a special measure of2
commendation for the vital contributions that garnered the team's fourth-place finish, Louie3
Kam, Alexander Li, Reed Tang, Li Wang, and Scott Wu; and4
WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved5
without the guidance and skills of Ms. Lai Cao, the team's coach, as well as all of the other6
individuals who contributed to the success of the science bowl team.7
 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the8
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Baton Rouge Magnet High School9
Science Bowl Team upon their extraordinary achievements and does hereby extend best10
wishes to the team members and everyone involved with this fine program as they celebrate11
their memorable accomplishments and prepare for continued success in the future.12
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted13
to Ms. Lai Cao and the Baton Rouge Magnet High School Science Bowl Team.14
