ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 128 BY REPRESENTATIVE FOIL A RESOLUTION To commend the members of the Baton Rouge Magnet High School Science Bowl Team upon their participation in the 2014 National Science Bowl and their fourth-place finish. WHEREAS, created in 1991 by the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Science Bowl encourages and motivates students to excel in science and mathematics and to pursue careers in these fields; and WHEREAS, the National Science Bowl is a nationwide competition that tests students' knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics disciplines, including biology, chemistry, Earth science, physics, energy, and math; and WHEREAS, as one of the nation's largest science competitions for high school and middle school students, more than two hundred thirty thousand students have participated in the National Science Bowl throughout its twenty-four-year history; and WHEREAS, science bowl teams consist of four students, one alternate, and a coach, who compete in a fast paced verbal forum to solve technical problems and answer questions in all categories of science and math; and WHEREAS, having won the regional event, the Baton Rouge Magnet High School Science Bowl Team qualified to participate in the National Science Bowl event held in Washington, D.C., on April 24 through 28, 2014; and WHEREAS, the talented team members performed at the highest level throughout the national event, and each member deserves and merits a special measure of commendation for the vital contributions that garnered the team's fourth-place finish, Louie Kam, Alexander Li, Reed Tang, Li Wang, and Scott Wu; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 128 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved without the guidance and skills of Ms. Lai Cao, the team's coach, as well as all of the other individuals who contributed to the success of the science bowl team. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Baton Rouge Magnet High School Science Bowl Team upon their extraordinary achievements and does hereby extend best wishes to the team members and everyone involved with this fine program as they celebrate their memorable accomplishments and prepare for continued success in the future.
