HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 131
BY REPRESENTATIVE BURRELL
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the organizers and participants of the Louisiana Hayride
revival being held on May 9, 2014, at the newly renovated Municipal Auditorium in
Shreveport
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the organizers and participants of the Louisiana Hayride revival.2
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the organizers and participants of the3
Louisiana Hayride revival being held on May 9, 2014, at the newly renovated Municipal4
Auditorium in Shreveport.5
WHEREAS, on April 3, 1948, the Louisiana Hayride debuted as a weekly showcase6
of talented singers, songwriters, and performers; and 7
WHEREAS, Horace Lee Logan, once a radio host on Shreveport's KWKH-AM, was8
the original producer and emcee of the Louisiana Hayride; and9
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Hayride became known as The Cradle of the Stars,10
because so many international stars began their careers on this program including Hank11
Williams, Johnny Cash, and Johnny Horton; and12
WHEREAS, most notably, Elvis Presley began his career on the Louisiana Hayride13
stage with his debut performance on October 16, 1954; and14
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Hayride, for a time, was nationally broadcast on CBS15
radio and became a staple of Armed Forces Radio programming; and16
WHEREAS, Horace Logan continued to produce the show until 1957; and17
WHEREAS, after serving as a launching pad for many great musicians and singers,18
the Louisiana Hayride ended its primary run on August 27, 1960; and 19
WHEREAS, in August 2009, the Louisiana Hayride was inducted into the Louisiana20
Music Hall of Fame; and21 HR NO. 131

WHEREAS, the Municipal Auditorium is located just west of downtown Shreveport1
and is considered one of the city's most treasured landmarks; and 2
WHEREAS, the auditorium was built in the 1920s and was dedicated to the Soldiers3
of the Great War on Veteran's Day in 1929; and 4
WHEREAS, because of its elaborate detail, the Municipal Auditorium has been5
coined the finest example of Art Deco construction in the state of Louisiana; and 6
WHEREAS, the Municipal Auditorium was recently renovated and will host the7
remarkable revival of the Louisiana Hayride on May 9, 2014; and 8
WHEREAS, this evening of local legendary music will feature an amazing tribute,9
"Hits of the Hayride", which will consist of the radio program's top songs performed by the10
Louisiana Hayride Band; and11
WHEREAS the Louisiana Hayride Band features Maggie Warwick, Kenny Bill12
Stinson, Brad Davis, Bill Boles, Brady Blade, David Egan, Buddy Flett, Robin Vosbury, Ben13
Franks, Terry Lynn Falcone, Airheart, Lynn Ourso, John Howe, Ted Jones, Tom Colquitt,14
and Denny Fintaine; and 15
WHEREAS, the revival will also showcase Shreveport singing talents, Cole Vosbury,16
Dez Duron, and Willie Jones, who all have had national exposure on the popular television17
talent shows, The Voice and The X Factor; and 18
WHEREAS, the show is billed as "Unity in the Communality" and is a nonprofit19
event reflecting a partnership between the Louisiana Hayride Foundation, Community20
Renewal International, and Pet Savers. 21
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the22
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the organizers and participants of the23
Louisiana Hayride revival being held on May 9, 2014, at the newly renovated Municipal24
Auditorium in Shreveport.25
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature26
of Louisiana does hereby recognize this extraordinary event as an integral part of the culture27
and history of Shreveport and the state of Louisiana.28
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted29
