HLS 14RS-4830 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 135 BY REPRESENTATIVE SIMON CHILDREN: Recognizes the month of May as Foster Care Awareness Month in Louisiana A RESOLUTION1 To recognize the month of May as Foster Care Awareness Month in Louisiana.2 WHEREAS, the safety of children is paramount to the citizens of Louisiana; and3 WHEREAS, the family, serving as the primary source of love, identity, self-esteem,4 and support, is the very foundation of our communities; and5 WHEREAS, in Louisiana, there are more than seven thousand three hundred children6 and youth served annually in foster care, who are being provided with a safe, secure, and7 stable temporary home or care setting; and8 WHEREAS, all young people in foster care deserve a meaningful, permanent9 connection to a caring adult who is a supportive and lasting presence in their lives; and10 WHEREAS, foster, kinship, and adoptive families play a vital role in helping11 children and families heal and reconnect, thereby launching young people into successful12 school, work lives, and family; and13 WHEREAS, the Department of Children and Family Services recognizes the support,14 generosity, and love provided by our two thousand foster families to abused and neglected15 children in Louisiana's foster care program; and16 WHEREAS, dedicated foster families frequently adopt foster children, resulting in17 a need for more foster families; and18 WHEREAS, there are numerous individuals and organizations, including law19 enforcement, court systems, CASA, and foster families who advocate regarding the needs20 of children in foster care; and21 HLS 14RS-4830 ORIGINAL HR NO. 135 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, the Department of Children and Family Services is working, through1 the "Faith in Families" program to reduce the amount of time children spend in foster care2 and improve outcomes for foster children.3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the4 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize the month of May as Foster Care Awareness5 Month in the state of Louisiana.6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature7 of Louisiana does hereby recognize and commend the efforts of the many individuals and8 organizations who dedicate their time, love, and care to individuals in foster care.9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the10 secretary of the Department of Children and Family Services.11 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
