HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 143
BY REPRESENTATIVES STUART BISHOP, BARRAS, NANCY LANDRY, TERRY
LANDRY, MONTOUCET, ORTEGO, PI ERRE, AND ROBIDEAUX
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the St. Thomas More softball team upon winning the
Class 4A state championship
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the St. Thomas More High School softball team upon winning the Class 4A2
state championship title and to congratulate the Lady Cougars on an outstanding3
2014 season.4
WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars of St. Thomas More captured the Class 4A title in an5
11-5 victory over Vandebilt Catholic High School at the Louisiana High School Athletic6
Association-State Farm Fast Pitch 56 Softball Tournament, their second consecutive 4A state7
championship in softball; and8
WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars softball team finished the 2013-14 season with a 24-59
record; and10
WHEREAS, Head Coach Andria Waguespack prepared the Lady Cougars by11
instilling in the team the confidence and skills that are needed for continued success in the12
future in leading the Lady Cougars to their eighth state softball championship and fourth13
under her tutelage; and14
WHEREAS, the St. Thomas More Lady Cougars won their eighteenth district15
championship in a row in 2014, continuing their legacy of excellence; and16
WHEREAS, all members of the St. Thomas More softball team merit recognition for17
their outstanding performance; it is appropriate to commend the title game Most Outstanding18
Player Whitney Romero, a sophomore, for allowing one earned run and striking out five as19
the winning pitcher in the title game, while also going 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles20 HLS 14RS-4811	ORIGINAL

and three RBIs at the plate, while sophomore Bailey Hemphill and senior Allison Derise1
each contributed two doubles and two RBIs; and2
WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars play "Janie's Inning" at every home game and many3
away games, allowing Team Manager Janie Girouard, who has Down's syndrome, to4
actively participate as a player, bringing national recognition to their school; and5
WHEREAS, the St. Thomas More Lady Cougars exhibit the highest ideals of6
sportsmanship, bringing a commanding sense of honor and immense pride to their school,7
community, and the state of Louisiana.8
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the9
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the members of the St.10
Thomas More High School softball team and Head Coach Andria Waguespack for winning11
the Class 4A state title at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association-State Farm Fast12
Pitch 56 Softball Tournament, and for completing a successful 2014 season through such13
dedicated performance, which brings honor to their school, community, and the state of14
Louisiana.15
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted16
to Head Coach Andria Waguespack.17
