HLS 14RS-5150 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 147 BY REPRESENTATIVE FRANKLIN COMMENDATIONS: Commends George Williams, also known as the Flambé King of Southwest Louisiana A RESOLUTION1 To commend George Williams, also known as the Flambé King of Southwest Louisiana.2 WHEREAS, George Williams, also known as the Flambé King of Southwest3 Louisiana, is worthy of commendation for his indefatigable commitment to both his4 Southwest Louisiana community and the Cajun culinary traditions that help shape it; and5 WHEREAS, though George Williams grew up in Florida, he was introduced to Cajun6 cooking early in life when his father, Artie Williams, brought home bottles of Tabasco and7 other Cajun seasonings from his frequent business trips to Louisiana; and8 WHEREAS, the Williams family eventually relocated to Southwest Louisiana and9 George was able to explore his passion for Cajun recipes by cooking on a regular basis for10 his family and for church events; and11 WHEREAS, originally hired as a janitor for the Lake Charles Country Club, George12 Williams stayed after hours to help in the club's kitchen in order to learn more about13 professional cooking; through hard work and his unyielding passion for Louisiana culinary14 traditions, he was eventually promoted to manager of the dining room and flambé chef; and15 WHEREAS, flambé became his culinary signature and George Williams developed16 a complete repertoire of flambé recipes for every course of a meal, including salads and17 desserts; and18 WHEREAS, in 1990, one of his flambé recipes won an American Culinary19 Federation competition in Lake Charles, after which George Williams adopted the moniker20 of "Flambé King"; and21 HLS 14RS-5150 ORIGINAL HR NO. 147 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, he continues to pursue his passion for Louisiana cooking while sharing1 his inspirational success story with others; he actively ministers and motivates others to2 realize their unique gifts and talents in order to share them with their community; he works3 to instill a sense of pride in hard work, friendship, and self-respect in others; and4 WHEREAS, George Williams has brought his message of inspiration and5 determination to others through helping organize anti-drug and alcohol programs in the Lake6 Charles community; and7 WHEREAS, his unflagging commitment to his fellow citizens and his community8 earned him the 1991 Louisiana Governor's Award.9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the10 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend George Williams, also known as the Flambé11 King of Southwest Louisiana, for his inspirational story of hard work, perseverance, and12 triumph; his dedication to his fellow citizens and the improvement of his community; and13 his devotion to Louisiana culinary traditions.14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted15 to George Williams.16 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
