COMMENDATIONS : Commends the organizers of the La. Hugh O'Brian Youth
Leadership seminars and recognizes Thursday, May 22, 2014, as Hugh O'Brian
Youth Leadership Day
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the organizers of the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership seminars and2
to recognize Thursday, May 22, 2014, as Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Day.3
WHEREAS, Hugh O'Brian, the Hollywood star who portrayed Wyatt Earp in the4
television series "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp", founded the Hugh O'Brian Youth5
Leadership Foundation in 1958; and6
WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation, also known as HOBY,7
organizes and promotes annual leadership seminars for thousands of high school sophomores8
throughout the United States and abroad; and9
WHEREAS, the objectives of the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program are to10
seek out, recognize, develop, and reward leadership potential in high school students, to11
encourage and assist young people in their quests for self-identification and self-12
development, to host workshops for young people with recognized leaders in business,13
industry, government, science, and education, and to stimulate opportunities for young14
people to demonstrate their leadership abilities for the benefit of their communities and their15
country; and16
WHEREAS, to date, more than four hundred seventy-five thousand students have17
completed the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program and the 2014 Louisiana Hugh18
O'Brian Youth Leadership seminar is scheduled for Friday, June 13, 2014, through Sunday,19

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the1
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the organizers of the Louisiana Hugh2
O'Brian Youth Leadership seminars and does hereby recognize Thursday, May 22, 2014, as3
Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Day. 4
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to Cindy5
Bishop, chairperson of the Louisiana HOBY Leadership Seminar, and to Hugh O'Brian, who6
turned eighty-nine on April 19, 2014.7
