ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 167 BY REPRESENTATIVE JAMES A RESOLUTION To commend Bernice Taylor upon her retirement from the Louisiana Department of Revenue and to congratulate her for more than twenty-one years of outstanding public service to the state. WHEREAS, Bernice Taylor, a native of Leesville and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, has been married to her husband, John, for more than forty-two years and is the mother of three children and grandmother of two; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Taylor graduated from Pickering High School in 1968 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in 1971 from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, with a double major in psychology and history and continued her education with postgraduate course work in adult education and accounting; and WHEREAS, Bernice began her state service in October of 1992 at the Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR), has worked in the department's operations division, sales tax section, tax administration division, and public affairs division, and has developed numerous training courses for department employees; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Taylor has been a tireless and dedicated supporter of LDR's employee partnership with University Terrace Elementary School in coordination with the Volunteers in Public Schools program since 2002; and WHEREAS, over the past eleven years, Bernice Taylor has assisted in numerous events to raise funds for the purchase of school supplies, books, classroom equipment, and teaching aids; collecting goods and raising funds for holiday toy and clothing drives; collecting "Box Tops for Education" and coupons for various incentive programs to benefit the school; and collecting donations for University Terrace Elementary School from LDR employees for their participation in special "dress down" days; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 167 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Bernice has always been willing to go the extra mile and her faithful spirit and compassionate manner were never more apparent than when she came to the aid of her sister, upon the commencement of military responsibilities, by taking care of and raising her sister's children; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Taylor generously gave of her personal time and money to cook and bake for her coworkers, neighbors, and friends for holidays and on other numerous occasions and to provide them with her delicious cakes, cookies, and especially famous peanut cluster candies; and WHEREAS, upon her retirement, Mrs. Taylor will be greatly missed by the staff of LDR, who will continue to respect and admire her and value her friendship; and WHEREAS, Bernice Taylor exemplifies all of the finest qualities of a proficient public servant and will remain an inspiration to her fellow citizens for the vital contributions she has made and will long be remembered by those people she helped along the way. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Bernice Taylor upon her retirement after a long career of dedicated public service, does hereby record for posterity her noble accomplishments and express appreciation for the deep sense of pride and honor she brings to the Louisiana Department of Revenue, the community, and to the state of Louisiana, and does hereby extend to her every good wish for success and happiness in all of her future endeavors.
