COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Tynes Hildebrand on receiving the 2014 Dave Dixon
Louisiana Sports Leadership Award
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Tynes Hildebrand on receiving the 2014 Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports2
Leadership Award.3
WHEREAS, the Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award is presented4
annually by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association's thirty-member Louisiana Sports Hall5
of Fame selection committee to an individual who has played a decisive role as a sports6
leader or administrator benefitting Louisiana and bringing credit to the state on the national7
and international level; and8
WHEREAS, the Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award is named in honor9
of Hall of Famer Dave Dixon, the driving force behind bringing the National Football10
League to Louisiana with the creation of the New Orleans Saints franchise, and the man who11
is also considered the "father" of the Mercedes-Benz Louisiana Superdome; and12
WHEREAS, Dixon Award winners are enshrined as Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame13
members and are featured in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Museum; and14
WHEREAS, Northwestern State University (NSU) and National Collegiate Athletic15
Association (NCAA) basketball administrator Tynes Hildebrand is one of two 201416
recipients of the Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award; and17
WHEREAS, Tynes Hildebrand, a native of DeSoto Parish, was Northwestern's head18
basketball coach for sixteen seasons, and served as the Demons' athletic director from 198319

WHEREAS, Coach Hildebrand has been one of the NCAA's four regional officiating1
advisors for Division I men's hoops since 2006; and2
WHEREAS, as a coach, Tynes Hildebrand ranks third in career wins at NSU; and3
WHEREAS, Coach Hildebrand led the Demons into NCAA Division I and made4
national tournament appearances at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics5
(NAIA) level, in addition to providing assistance with the training camp of the 1972 United6
States Olympic Team; and7
WHEREAS, as athletic director, Tynes Hildebrand steered NSU into the Southland8
Conference in 1987, and his tenure was marked by unprecedented competitive and9
fundraising success, as well as the addition of a steady stream of young athletic10
administrators who continue to impact today's intercollegiate and professional sports scene;11
and12
WHEREAS, Tynes Hildebrand became a traveling evaluator for the initial round of13
the NCAA's Division I certification process, and served on numerous NCAA committees,14
until retiring as athletic director in 1996; and15
WHEREAS, Tynes Hildebrand will be among the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of16
Fame induction class to be spotlighted at the annual induction dinner and ceremonies on17
Saturday evening, June twenty-first, at the Natchitoches Events Center.18
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the19
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Tynes Hildebrand on receiving the 201420
Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award.21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted22
to Tynes Hildebrand.23
