ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 180 BY REPRESENTATIVE COX A RESOLUTION To commend Tynes Hildebrand on receiving the 2014 Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award. WHEREAS, the Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award is presented annually by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association's thirty-member Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame selection committee to an individual who has played a decisive role as a sports leader or administrator benefitting Louisiana and bringing credit to the state on the national and international level; and WHEREAS, the Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award is named in honor of Hall of Famer Dave Dixon, the driving force behind bringing the National Football League to Louisiana with the creation of the New Orleans Saints franchise, and the man who is also considered the "father" of the Mercedes-Benz Louisiana Superdome; and WHEREAS, Dixon Award winners are enshrined as Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame members and are featured in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Museum; and WHEREAS, Northwestern State University (NSU) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball administrator Tynes Hildebrand is one of two 2014 recipients of the Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award; and WHEREAS, Tynes Hildebrand, a native of DeSoto Parish, was Northwestern's head basketball coach for sixteen seasons, and served as the Demons' athletic director from 1983 through 1996; and WHEREAS, Coach Hildebrand has been one of the NCAA's four regional officiating advisors for Division I men's hoops since 2006; and WHEREAS, as a coach, Tynes Hildebrand ranks third in career wins at NSU; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 180 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Coach Hildebrand led the Demons into NCAA Division I and made national tournament appearances at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) level, in addition to providing assistance with the training camp of the 1972 United States Olympic Team; and WHEREAS, as athletic director, Tynes Hildebrand steered NSU into the Southland Conference in 1987, and his tenure was marked by unprecedented competitive and fundraising success, as well as the addition of a steady stream of young athletic administrators who continue to impact today's intercollegiate and professional sports scene; and WHEREAS, Tynes Hildebrand became a traveling evaluator for the initial round of the NCAA's Division I certification process, and served on numerous NCAA committees, until retiring as athletic director in 1996; and WHEREAS, Tynes Hildebrand will be among the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame induction class to be spotlighted at the annual induction dinner and ceremonies on Saturday evening, June twenty-first, at the Natchitoches Events Center. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Tynes Hildebrand on receiving the 2014 Dave Dixon Louisiana Sports Leadership Award.
