HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 186

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Alan Faneca upon his induction into the Louisiana
Sports Hall of Fame
A RESOLUTION1
To commend and congratulate Alan Faneca upon the occasion of his induction into the2
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.3
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1958 and was4
intended, in the words of Otis Harris, sports editor of the Shreveport Journal, to be "the5
Louisiana Hall of Fame - a hall of fame for the state's greatest athletes, men or women,6
amateur or professional, living or dead"; and 7
WHEREAS, Alan Faneca, born on December 7, 1976, in New Orleans, Louisiana,8
began his outstanding football career at Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg,9
Texas; and10
WHEREAS, Mr. Faneca continued playing football after being diagnosed with11
epilepsy at age 15 and played for the LSU Tigers football team from 1994 to 1997; he was12
voted the Southeastern Conference freshman of the year by the Knoxville News Sentinel in13
1995, was selected as a second-team All-American in 1996, and was recognized as a14
consensus first-team All-American and was one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy in15
1997; and16
WHEREAS, Alan Faneca started his last thirty-six games at LSU and allowed only17
one sack in his final season; and18
WHEREAS, Mr. Faneca was a first-round draft pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers in19
the National Football League in 1998, where he earned Rookie of the Year; and20 HLS 14RS-4908	ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, he returned to school and earned a degree in management1
entrepreneurship in 1999; and2
WHEREAS, Alan Faneca played ten years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, two years3
with the New York Jets, and one with the Arizona Cardinals, was voted to nine consecutive4
Pro Bowls, and was a six-time Associated Press All-Pro first-team pick; and 5
WHEREAS, Mr. Faneca played on the Steelers team that won Super Bowl XL, he6
was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's All-2000s team, and he was chosen to be on7
the Steelers' 75
th
 anniversary all-time team in 2007; and8
WHEREAS, Alan Faneca currently does extensive charitable work with the Epilepsy9
Foundation of America.10
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the11
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Alan Faneca upon the12
occasion of his induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.13
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted14
to Alan Faneca.15
