ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 24 BY REPRESENTATIVE HARRIS A RESOLUTION To commend River Oaks Square Arts Center upon the celebration of its thirtieth birthday of serving the community of Alexandria. WHEREAS, in 1899, James Wade Bolton acquired a home in the city of Alexandria; and WHEREAS, in 1979, the Bolton family donated their family home to the city of Alexandria to be used solely for the arts; and WHEREAS, the Bolton Home has become home to many programs and artists of River Oaks since 1984 pursuant to an operating agreement between the city of Alexandria and River Oaks Square Arts Center; and WHEREAS, the Bolton Home became the catalyst for River Oaks Square Arts Center and exemplifies Queen Anne Revival architecture that features details of long-leaf yellow pine framing and a raised on-pier foundation; and WHEREAS, the Bolton Home in River Oaks Square Arts Center holds the honor of being listed on the National Registry of Historic Places; and WHEREAS, River Oaks Square serves as both a contemporary visual arts and fine crafts center that consists of resident artists who work with a variety of media; and WHEREAS, in 1999, a new fifteen thousand square foot studio annex building that houses twenty-five studios, three galleries, an on-site arts academy, a full-scale ceramic studio, and rental space opened its doors to meet the changing and additional needs of River Oaks Square Arts Center; and WHEREAS, for over thirty years, it has been River Oaks Square Arts Center's mission to promote contemporary visual art and fine crafts, to stimulate interest in, exhibition of, education of, and appreciation for regional, resident, and local artists and their work. ENROLLEDHR NO. 24 Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend River Oaks Square Arts Center upon the celebration of its thirtieth birthday.
