SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes Tuesday, March 18, 2014, as the Louisiana
Society of Professional Surveyors Day at the state capitol
A RESOLUTION1
To recognize Tuesday, March 18, 2014, as Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors Day2
at the state capitol.3
WHEREAS, March 16 through 22, 2014, is National Surveyors Week; and4
WHEREAS, professional surveying is celebrating its one hundred fifth year of5
licensure; the first licenses, numbered one, two, and three, were issued to J.B. Bice, C.P.6
Couvillion, and R.A. Crowson, respectively, in 1908; and7
WHEREAS, in April 2011, the Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors hosted8
its fiftieth annual conference; and9
WHEREAS, licensed professional surveyo rs are compelled to follow rules of10
professional conduct in order to safeguard life and health, to protect property, to promote the11
welfare of the public, and to establish and maintain a high standard of integrity in the12
performance of their professional duties; and13
WHEREAS, licensed professional surveyors, at all times, recognize that their14
primary obligation is to protect the safety, health, property, and welfare of the public; and15
WHEREAS, licensed professional surveyors are committed to cooperating with16
educational institutions to maintain high standards of education in land surveying; and17
WHEREAS, licensed professional surveyors are committed to maintaining the18
highest levels of professional quality and to keeping abreast of the most advanced19
technological developments in their field, including utilizing global positioning, mapping,20 HLS 14RS-1712 ORIGINAL

and spatial referencing as they seek to provide state-of-the-art surveying services to the1
citizens of Louisiana.2
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the3
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana Society of Professional4
Surveyors and its members across the state for their significant contributions in service to5
the citizens of Louisiana since licenses were first issued in 1908.6
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature7
of Louisiana does hereby recognize Tuesday, March 18, 2014, as Louisiana Society of8
Professional Surveyors Day at the state capitol.9
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the10
Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors.11
