HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 29

A RESOLUTION
To recognize Tuesday, March 18, 2014, as Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors Day
at the state capitol.
WHEREAS, March 16 through 22, 2014, is National Surveyors Week; and
WHEREAS, professional surveying is celebrating its one hundred fifth year of
licensure; the first licenses, numbered one, two, and three, were issued to J.B. Bice, C.P.
Couvillion, and R.A. Crowson, respectively, in 1908; and
WHEREAS, in April 2011, the Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors hosted
its fiftieth annual conference; and
WHEREAS, licensed professional surveyors are compelled to follow rules of
professional conduct in order to safeguard life and health, to protect property, to promote the
welfare of the public, and to establish and maintain a high standard of integrity in the
performance of their professional duties; and
WHEREAS, licensed professional surveyors, at all times, recognize that their
primary obligation is to protect the safety, health, property, and welfare of the public; and
WHEREAS, licensed professional surveyors are committed to cooperating with
educational institutions to maintain high standards of education in land surveying; and
WHEREAS, licensed professional surveyors are committed to maintaining the
highest levels of professional quality and to keeping abreast of the most advanced
technological developments in their field, including utilizing global positioning, mapping,
and spatial referencing as they seek to provide state-of-the-art surveying services to the
citizens of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana Society of Professional ENROLLEDHR NO. 29

Surveyors and its members across the state for their significant contributions in service to
the citizens of Louisiana since licenses were first issued in 1908.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature
of Louisiana does hereby recognize Tuesday, March 18, 2014, as Louisiana Society of
Professional Surveyors Day at the state capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors.
