BY REPRESENTATIVE HENRY BURNS
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Recognizes April 2014 as the Month of the Military
Child in Louisiana
A RESOLUTION1
To recognize April 2014 as the Month of the Military Child in Louisiana.2
WHEREAS, in 1986, Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger designated the month3
of April as the Month of the Military Child to recognize the sacrifices of military children4
as their parents serve our nation; and5
WHEREAS, the life of a child of military parents is filled with the unique challenges6
of parent deployments and reintegration and the frequent moves that are a part of the often7
sudden residential relocations that accompany a soldier's career; and8
WHEREAS, students and faculty at Cope Middle School in Bossier City will9
celebrate "Purple Up Day" on April 25, 2014, to recognize the children of military personnel10
who are stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base, the Naval Reserve Center, and the Army11
National Guard; and12
WHEREAS, the Bossier community is home to over two thousand military children13
from four to eighteen years old, and the Bossier Chamber of Commerce and the Military14
Child Education Coalition have assembled a number of discounts, gift cards, signage, and15
other outward expressions of support by Bossier-area vendors for military children in the16
month of April.17
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the18
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize the month of April 2014 as the Month of the19
Military Child and does hereby commend the children of those who serve in all branches of20 HLS 14RS-1632	ORIGINAL

the United States military for the sacrifices they make as their parents dutifully and faithfully1
execute their duties to protect the citizens of Louisiana and the nation.2
