HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 32
BY REPRESENTATIVE HENRY BURNS
A RESOLUTION
To recognize April 2014 as the Month of the Military Child in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, in 1986, Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger designated the month
of April as the Month of the Military Child to recognize the sacrifices of military children
as their parents serve our nation; and
WHEREAS, the life of a child of military parents is filled with the unique challenges
of parent deployments and reintegration and the frequent moves that are a part of the often
sudden residential relocations that accompany a soldier's career; and
WHEREAS, students and faculty at Cope Middle School in Bossier City will
celebrate "Purple Up Day" on April 25, 2014, to recognize the children of military personnel
who are stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base, the Naval Reserve Center, and the Army
National Guard; and
WHEREAS, the Bossier community is home to over two thousand military children
from four to eighteen years old, and the Bossier Chamber of Commerce and the Military
Child Education Coalition have assembled a number of discounts, gift cards, signage, and
other outward expressions of support by Bossier-area vendors for military children in the
month of April. ENROLLEDHR NO. 32
