HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 36
BY REPRESENTATIVE PIERRE
A RESOLUTION
To commend Maestro Samuel Carver Davenport, director of the Dillard University Concert
Choir for his outstanding dedication to the famed Dillard University Concert Choir
during the past thirty-nine years and for his significant contributions and
accomplishments in the music industry.
WHEREAS, S. Carver Davenport's appreciation and love for music can be traced to
his leadership as he has served as conductor, lyric tenor, arranger, and director of the Dillard
University Concert Choir for the past thirty-nine years; and
WHEREAS, S. Carver Davenport directed a one thousand voice choir for the
National Baptist Training Union Congress musical after being designated by the Host Pastor,
Dr. W. E. Hausey; and
WHEREAS, S. Carver Davenport was appointed by the Mayor of New Orleans to
serve as the music director for the Republican National Convention, where he directed the
New Orleans Symphony Orchestra and a five hundred voice convention choir; and
WHEREAS, other monumental achievements of S. Carver Davenport include being
appointed by the National Football League to serve as the music director of the "Super Bowl
XXIV" halftime show, singing before former United States President Gerald Ford, and being
an esteemed member of the Moses Hogan Chorale and Moses Hogan Singers; and
WHEREAS, Davenport has been and continues to be the guest choral conductor for
the prestigious Skruk Norwegian Choir, under the direction of the famed Dr. Oddvar Hildre,
which performs across Norway and the United States; and
WHEREAS, throughout his prestigious career, S. Carver Davenport has had the
honor of touring worldwide with various choirs and musical ventures. ENROLLEDHR NO. 36

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend S. Carver Davenport for his significant
musical contributions to the Dillard University Concert Choir and the music industry.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Samuel Carver Davenport.
