HLS 14RS-2036 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 43 BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes Thursday, March 27, 2014, as Southern Poverty Law Center Day at the state capitol A RESOLUTION1 To recognize Thursday, March 27, 2014, as Southern Poverty Law Center Day at the state2 capitol and to commend the Southern Poverty Law Center for its invaluable3 contributions to the state of Louisiana.4 WHEREAS, the Southern Poverty Law Center was founded in Montgomery,5 Alabama, in 1971 is an internationally recognized civil rights organization that is dedicated6 to fighting hate, teaching tolerance, and seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of7 society, and is a respected civil rights institution in the South; and8 WHEREAS, in 2007, the Southern Poverty Law Center established an office in New9 Orleans, Louisiana, to ensure that all Louisiana students have equal access to a high-quality10 public education and that Louisiana's most vulnerable children have access to community-11 based supports and services that are necessary for them to thrive and become valuable12 members of their communities; and13 WHEREAS, through its commitment to protecting the rights of Louisiana's children14 and families, the Southern Poverty Law Center continues to make a contribution of15 immeasurable value to the state of Louisiana.16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the17 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the staff at the Southern Poverty Law Center18 for their invaluable contributions in serving the citizens of the state of Louisiana.19 HLS 14RS-2036 ORIGINAL HR NO. 43 Page 2 of 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives does hereby1 recognize Thursday, March 27, 2014, as Southern Poverty Law Center Day at the state2 capitol.3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the4 Southern Poverty Law Center.5 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
