HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 44
BY REPRESENTATIVE THIERRY
COMMENDATIONS:  Recognizes the town of Grand Coteau, Louisiana, as the Sweet
Dough Pie Capital of the state
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the town of Grand Coteau, Louisiana, for founding the Sweet Dough Pie2
Festival and to recognize the town as the Sweet Dough Pie Capital of the state.3
WHEREAS, the town of Grand Coteau is unique in rural Louisiana for being on the4
National Register of Historic Places, boasting of magnificent oak alleys, groves, and5
gardens, as well as numerous architecturally significant Creole, French, Acadian, Anglo-6
American, and Victorian houses, stores, and religious institutions; and7
WHEREAS, the Grand Coteau Cultural Foundation was founded in 2012 to promote8
awareness of Grand Coteau's unique culture, history, and spiritual foundation, and its9
members chose to designate a festival in celebration of such cultural uniqueness by10
spotlighting the locally popular delicacy, Sweet Dough Pie; and11
WHEREAS, choosing as the nominal focus for recognition the sweet dough pie,12
which is unique as a theme among the many established small-town festivals celebrated13
throughout Louisiana, the Sweet Dough Pie Festival of Grand Coteau was first celebrated14
in 2012 and features tours of some of the town's many architectural treasures, presentations15
by guest speakers on its interesting history, local crafts and music, and of course, a sweet16
dough pie contest; and17
WHEREAS, enjoyed by over 1,800 festival-goers in its inaugural year and over18
2,500 in its second, and raising thousands of dollars awarded as grants to local organizations19
that enhance the quality of life and economic development of the beloved town, the festival20

WHEREAS, it is the founders' hope that the Sweet Dough Pie Festival will give fun-1
loving Louisianians and visitors to our convivial state yet another reason to pass a good time2
for many years to come.3
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the4
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the town of Grand Coteau, Louisiana, for5
establishing the annual Sweet Dough Pie Festival and recognizes the town as the Sweet6
Dough Pie Capital of the state.7
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted8
to the Grand Coteau Cultural Foundation.9
