HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 51
BY REPRESENTATIVE BURFORD
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Issac McFarland on his recognition as one of the top
youth volunteers in Louisiana
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Isaac McFarland of Keithville, Louisiana, upon his recognition as one of the2
top youth volunteers in Louisiana.3
WHEREAS, Isaac McFarland was recently named one of the top youth volunteers4
in Louisiana for 2014 at the 19th Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and it is5
appropriate to commend him for this outstanding achievement; and6
WHEREAS, Isaac is a junior at Caddo Parish Magnet High School and a member of7
the Caddo Parish 4-H; he founded "Game Changers Let's Tackle Hunger", a campaign that8
helped provide more than one thousand customized tackle boxes filled with healthy breakfast9
food to children in need; and10
WHEREAS, Isaac also organized a food drive that yielded two tons of items for his11
local food bank, made and served jambalya at a soup kitchen with meat from his family's12
farm, and created an ambassador program where young mentors teach others about the13
benefits of healthy eating and exercise; and14
WHEREAS, more than thirty thousand young people from across the country15
participated in this year's program, and as a distinguished finalist, Isaac will receive an16
engraved bronze medallion; and17
WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, created in 1995 by18
Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School19
Principals (NASSP), are designed to emphasize the importance of service to others and20

WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,1
and the overall vitality of American society, depend in great measure upon the dedication2
of young people like Isaac; he represents the best of America's youth and is a role model to3
his peers and his community.4
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the5
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Isaac McFarland as a recipient of the6
Prudential Spirit Community Award, does hereby recognize his outstanding record of7
volunteer service, peer leadership, and community spirit, does hereby record for posterity8
the immense pride and honor that Issac brings to his family and friends, his community, and9
the state of Louisiana, and does hereby extend best wishes for his continued success,10
prosperity, and happiness.11
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted12
to Isaac McFarland.13
