HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 62
BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH
COMMENDATIONS:  Recognizes Monday, April 7, 2014, as LSU Day at the state capitol
A RESOLUTION1
To recognize Monday, April 7, 2014, as LSU Day at the state capitol.2
WHEREAS, LSU has provided high-quality education services for one hundred3
fifty-four years, and offers solutions for the scientific, social, and economic needs of4
Louisiana; and5
WHEREAS, LSU enrolls 43,142 students from every parish in the state at its6
institutions and offers degrees in more than one hundred fields, ranging from associate to7
doctoral degrees; and8
WHEREAS, in 2013, LSU awarded 8,740 degrees in its continuing mission to meet9
the workforce demands of the state and nation; and10
WHEREAS, the almost fourteen thousand faculty and staff employed by LSU11
throughout the state fulfill roles in teaching, research, outreach, and healthcare; and12
WHEREAS, currently more than three thousand two hundred LSU scholars are13
conducting federally funded projects for twenty-four federal agencies and commissions14
totaling $591 million; these projects cover more than two hundred seventy-five fields15
ranging from coastal restoration to health outcomes to better education to national defense;16
and17
WHEREAS, LSU conducts outreach and services for communities in all sixty-four18
parishes of the state on issues of agriculture, aquaculture, rural development, health and19
mental health, nutrition, education, flood protection, small business development, animal20

WHEREAS, LSU's efforts generate an economic impact of $3.9 billion in Louisiana,1
which includes 36,757 jobs that are critical to the citizens of our state; in addition to the2
tremendous financial contributions are the benefits of student, faculty, and staff3
volunteerism; and4
WHEREAS, Louisiana is served by the good works of LSU across the state and her5
citizens can be confident in looking to LSU for solutions to all manner of challenges.6
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the7
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Monday, April 7, 2014, as LSU Day at the8
state capitol and does hereby commend the dedicated work and contributions of the9
employees and students of LSU to the great state of Louisiana.10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted11
to LSU President and Chancellor F. King Alexander.12
